How can I bend the part attached with out bending the whole flange that protrudes beyond the bend.

I tried all fashions of bounding the bend line to stay to the projected part edge.

like this that I had to solid model not sheet metal

the part is as such on the tiff file

the only other thing not on the print from the customer is the corner radius of .039.

the flat blank was developed by the customer and a laser blank and forming.

There are couple of ways to do it. Since it is a sheet metal part - Part1 is a preferred choice of mine. IV2020 format.

To make this style part you have to drop back on how much info you place on the bend section. Do bare min on the face to bend. Then finish the side / bent face as needed. It's tough to match up a featured blank and then start bending things and them match up.Sheet Metal bend.JPG

I'm embarrassed to say this took me 4 hours to figure out, and it's still not 'clean'.

I'd like to see how JD does his, b/c he's the resident expert in here.

I accept the answers on all the sheet metal bending , I see there is no simple and direct solution to this problem.

The part blank is laid out by the customer and bent and tried out so there profiles are gospel that I have to use.

What I was trying to do was make a simple bend with a boundary so I could fold and unfold it in a progressive die development.

I did play with several other solutions and they all lead to the same result.

My Customer request is for development to be able to stop the boundary of the part without a continuous bend axes.

 

Thank all of you.

I did finally have time to open and try several of the suggested solutions.

Seems to me the key for this project is possessing a fully detailed flat pattern (blank) instead of a dimensioned 'formed' part. The place where you get 'challenged' is @ the bend transition. That's where you have to mess around w/it till you find a way to do it. That's why I wanted to see @JDMather's solution to see how he handled it.

 

Same w/ @IgorMir. Any chance you can show me how you did yours? I can't view your files on my older version of Inventor.
