Separate Entries in a BOM

Anonymous
Not applicable

I am trying to layout a material handling system that has multiple instances of the same asset (a level conveyor, for example) and want to give them separate names and separate line items on the BOM but haven't found a way to do that.  I've renamed the asset instances in the Model Browser and I've tried changing the "Part Number Row Merge Settings" (my default setting was "Enable Row Merge on Part Number Match" is unchecked) but they are still grouped which isn't what I want (I even tried turning the feature on and creating an entry in the "Merge Exclude List" but no luck).

I've also tried to add asset tags to see if that helped to differentiate the parts but, again, no luck.

Anyone else have success changing this?

The Part Number Row Merge Settings only affects parts, or assemblies, that are unique that have the same part number.  You will have to create this situation.  Take a look at this link and it will explain the process.

Options:

1. Derive of save copy as. Replace copies with derived/ different files. Ensure same part number if that's what you desire, but leave merge unchecked.

2. Add CUSTOM PARTS to the partslist

3. Add virtual components to the BOM.

thank you... it's a bit more cumbersome than I would prefer but it definitely works!

Hi @Anonymous,

Have you check out Factory Design Utilities? They come as part of the product design collection,

https://www.autodesk.com/products/factory-design-utilities/overview

The ability to 'Tag' assets with unique codes is included.

We are doing all of the layout in FDS and I tried adding an Asset tag but that didn't seem to work.

I added a User Parameter called "Conveyor_Name" which worked because of the difference in the parameter but the part number didn't change (I used the "Save and Replace Component" command that was recommended and that worked (but seems cumbersome and creates a lot of subfiles).

Thanks...

Hi! I think you are looking for a way to create occurrence-based BOM properties in Inventor BOM. Unfortunately, it is not yet available. We have heard this requirement and we are investigating good solutions.

Many thanks!

Yes, that is exactly what I am looking for.  I would like an easy way to name (rename) an asset that has multiple occurrences in an assembly and have each one show up separately in the BOM.

Thank you!

Factory Design Utilities has a separate (additional!) option for rolling up the BOM.

Check and see if you are collating items using 'Apply key parameters'

Does that help?
