Section view used as section cut

Hi,

Is it possible to measure  between to lines or two points with only using the Secttion View?

So Section view acts like a Section cut.

BR,

David

Can you draw an example of what you are after?

1. "Half section view"

2. Choose XZ plane

3. Try to measure the distance between two "section" edges

Is it not possible?

Please  have a look at the attached pictures.

Oh I see.

No I don't think so, you would be able to if it were a section in a drawing view though.

You would be able to add some work points using the slicing work plane and feature edge, you could then measure between those.

Thanks for your help.

I used SolidWorks in my previous job.

This was much easier in SolidWorks.

You could move your section View and do the measuring very easy.

Section View in SolidWorks is a kind of temporary Surface Cut.

Hi Guys,

You can simply create a sketch on the section plane. Then use Project Cut Edges command to create the measurable section. The cut persists with the model.

Many thanks!

But it would be much easier and I could save a lot of time if I do not create any sketch or use Project Cut Edges.

Specially if I am going to do this hundreds of times.

Please try to test this feature in SolidWorks and you will see how important this is, especially if you have a complicated design and you need to check your design from different angels.

Thanks a lot.

Hi David,

I know the workflow in SWX. I also use it from time to time. But, INV has its way of doing things. We are not trying to build INV like SWX.

I do see the value of having the workflow in INV. However, it is yet another request among many other requests. We need to prioritize it somehow and make sure the most impactful ideas rank higher. Please feel free to report it as an idea on Inventor Ideas forum (https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-ideas/idb-p/v1232) so other users can vote on it.

Many thanks!
