Search Functionality

Hello,

Does anyone know if there is a way to search for a part in a large assembly?

It happens that a part is in a sub-assembly of a sub-assembly and can be therefore hard to find in large assembly's as we use them.

Ok, here a step by step :

1. Filter your search by part or assembly
2. In property, set by "name of the file" or "file with name" (not sure of my translate), you can set your search by other iProperties, like part number or title...
3. In condition, set "start by"
4. In value, type your part name
5. Search

You can also repeat these steps to set a list of conditions to your search.

Edit : i forgot this : After search, you can isolate the selection.

Or switch between "modeling display" and "assembly display" to develop the tree and see your selected part

Probably the worst UI/UX ever. What were you guys smoking when creating this functionality? Always remember, KISS, keep it simple stupid.

Why does everyone go to google? Because they can type in what they want to search for and retrieve it in milliseconds. Why does everyone hate the search functionality in Inventor? Because it is cumbersome, slow, and just plain stupid. Sure, the question has been answered on this thread, but there need not be a question to begin with. Searching is such a basic intuitive tool - the very fact that you have a question about it demonstrates you screwed it up royally.

All other CAD systems I've used is a simple ctrl F, type in part number and it automatically highlights/finds in the model tree. If more is desired then go to "advanced" search.

Hi! Inventor 2018 supports browser search. You can type in any browser name in the search field in Model browser to search for browser nodes.
