Save to older version

How do I save a file to an old version?

Hi @tony.cosby,

You can't directly due to differences between versions and also maintaining associativity.

The nearest workaround is to convert to 'dumb' format like a STEP file which would allow you to work in an older version at the expense of adaptivity and modelling history.

Hi Tony,

On top of what experts have already mentioned, there is a workflow allowing you to reference a newer Inventor files in an older Inventor release. For example, if you want to reference 2020 files in 2019, you need to have 2019.4 update installed. Then you can link a 2020 ipt or iam file to 2019 as a reference. You cannot alter the referenced geometry. But, you can use it to build new geometry. When 2020 files change, Inventor 2019 will update accordingly.

Many thanks!
