Routed Systems nuked pc speed

Hi, a colleague recently upgraded from IVS 2008 to Iv Routed Systems 2008
and has noticed an extreme loss in performance - even just opening, closing
and saving assemblies now take twice as long as on a non-pro Iv install
(even those without any cable/pipe data). Any known bottlenecks or any idea
how to improve the situation?

should it have had a full XP wipe/re-install when upgrading (instead of just
de-installing Iv 2008)?

system spec:
Iv 2008 Routed with SP2
XP SP2
HP xw4400 workstation (Core 2 6700 @ 2.66GHz)
4 Gig ram (using the 3 Gig switch)
Quadro FX1500 gfx card

Hope someone can help and thanks in advanced,

Sam

I think you may find two versions of Iv'08 have now been installed and this is causing the problem.

Un-install both and re-install Iv Routing

we were wondering the same thing tbh. So, we've just stripped out all
Autodesk software (Iv, MDT, etc) and freshly installed Iv 2008 Routing and
still are having speed problems.

On two identical systems (down to the same drivers) but one with Iv 2008
Suite and the other with Iv 2008 Routing, we've opened a test assembly which
was built on Suite (ie has NO routing parts) and opens in 44 seconds on
Suite but 1min 15 sec on Routing. Why is it 30seconds longer to open in
Routing? is this normal? Please note the assembly was opened, and timed,
once Iv had already loaded into memory - so the additional loading time of
Routing's modules shouldn't be the issue. We can understand a Routing
assembly taking longer to load once there are multiple adaptive wiring looms
in place, but a non-Routing assembly should be no different - and especially
not nearly twice the loading time.

Are there higher system spec's for Routing? (AD's webby only lists
"Inventor" recommended specs irrespective of Suite or any Pro variants).
Are our brand new Core2 systems just not up to scratch for it?

Any ideas where next to look? At the moments it's really looking like
getting a refund for Routing and returning to Iv Suite.

I've got to guess, but hopefully it might be an inspired guess 😉

I don't know how Inv loads add-ins, this is something you might like to check.

You might have to consider that one of your computers might have a faulty component, even if it is new.

You might want to run Chkdsk from Run or go to My Computer, RMB your local drive and select Properties, then select Tools(tab)
and run the disk Error Check with both tick/check boxes ticked/checked.

Run Defrag.

Download, install and run Page Defrag http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/FileAndDisk/PageDefrag.mspx

There are other progettes that can check for Memory problems etc.

Cheers for the suggestions mate, a potential hardware problem did dawn on
me, but still unsure. Before Routing was installed it was working fine with
Suite and at a similar speed to the other pc mentioned earlier.

bizare as it may sound but we did a few benchmark speed tests with this
specific pc before purchasing the others (it's about 1 month older, but
still identical spec) and still have the results. So we can see that this
pc previously opened this test assembly within 45 seconds with Suite and is
now 30secs slower with Routing. Which is why I was thinking it's a
Routing-specific problem.

Looking at the "add-ins" the Routing modules are loaded at start-up - so I'm
assuming that opening a part/assembly from within Iv (instead of just
double-clicking in Explorer without Iv Running) should be after these
add-ons are loaded and thus my assumption that their loading time shouldn't
be the factor.

When I get a chance I'll do the hardware checks anyway - best to explore all
options.

Hi Sam,

As another test, could you try unloading the T&P and C&H add-ins on
startup to see if it makes a difference in opening time of the assembly? If
the RS add-ins aren't loaded, the behavior should be the equivalent to
Suite. If the delay persists, then it is probably not due to the Routed
Systems applications and may be somewhere else in the system...

Of course a fair test would be using an assembly that doesn't contain
routed data (as you've already mentioned).

I hope this helped...

Best regards, -Hugh
