Right Mouse Button (RMB) Stops Working in Inventor ONLY?

Had posted this in the body of another thread but looks like this needs to be addressed by itself.  Had one of our engineers say several times he was working in Inventor and all of a sudden his right mouse button would stop working. Was fine in every application except Inventor. Would have to restart Inventor to get that to work. Well, sure enough this morning I was working on an assembly and I RMB on a part in the model tree, got a quick error message could not find the part. After that, no right mouse button. Fine in every application except Inventor.

A couple engineers here seems to have nailed it down as they got the same results.  When we download a STEP file from a vendor that is an assembly, creating a constraint kills the RMB.  Basically we download a STEP file and open it.  Often it's an assembly with hundreds of parts, so rather than saving all these parts in our project folder, we tweak the assembly to what we want and save a simplified part and break the link.  BUT we have found if we download and open a STEP file assembly from a vendor, when we add a constraint before simplifying it we get a quick popup message that something cannot be found and after that we have no RMB.  RMB works in every other application but not Inventor.  Only fix is close everything and restart Inventor.

I'll try to get more data for this but wanted to get this posted to see if there are others experiencing this.

We are not on 2023 and this will not be an option for us at the moment.  Shouldn't there be a fix for 2022?

Not every problem has a fix, and this seems to be a hard one to crack (I'm not a dev, but it looks like from other discussions that Inventor's RMB pop-up is clashing with some other dll from Windows). I was just conveying that in the latest update there are more chances of lingering bugs to be fixed. Anyhow, let's wait and see what the devs/support recommends here.

If it helps, we have identified the exact conditions under which RMB stops working in 2022 Inventor.  I will try to get those details posted by someone on our team.

the conditions which cause crashing are described in the initial post.

Hi Folks,

I am not sure if this is related. Here is an article worth trying.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Inven...

If you are using dual monitors, here is another setting to try.

Go to Control Panel -> System -> Advanced System Settings -> Advanced -> Performance -> Settings -> Adjust for best performance.

Many thanks!

I get this all the time with step files. This is what has worked for me, when opening the step file choose convert then go to the select tab and load model and use the plus/slash ball icons to turn parts on/off respectively (see pics) then save it as an Inventor file (be aware - not wholly sure if it's from the system the step file came from or just wasn't exported correctly but I sometimes get step files that treat assembles as a single part so no multiple parts to choose from, arrrgh!), It will save the parts you kept as on and get rid the parts you turned off, then you shouldn't be losing the RMB menu in this regard anymore.

Just flaky stuff recently.  Was on vacation for a week and when I returned I restarted my computer to be sure everything was clean. Opened a machine assembly and when I touched my SpacePilot (and I mean just TOUCHED) my model stuttered and spun on the screen for about 15 seconds.  I could just bump my SpacePilot and it would trigger this long jumping spin.  Killed all the 3Dconnexion processes and it still did the same thing.  Restarted 3Dconnexion and reset everything to factory settings.  Same thing.  Restarted Inventor. Same thing.  I could use F4 to orbit and was smooth as butter and stopped immediately.  Restarted my computer and still the same thing.  Ended up installing the 2022.4 update and then it didn't do it anymore.  Like I said.... flaky.
