Right click stop working (marking menu) inventor 2020

I am wondering if anyone else still have this issue on inventor 2020. I have seen a lots of post with this issue who is marked solved. The suggested solution is disable the marking menu. Explain to me how this can be a permanent solution. Autodesk give us a new feature who is not working and the only solution i can find since 4 years to this problem is to disable it.  Do i missed something?? If someone have a better fix it will be much appreciated. For some reason it's worst on this version and i have to restart my inventor 2 or 3 time a day.

Thank you !!

Have you installed the 2020.1 update?

Have you updated your graphics card driver recently?

What graphics card /driver version are you using?

I am using 2020.1 and have not had a single crash with it in a few weeks now. Its very stable for me.  and the marking menu/right click functionality is working great..

Sounds like you may be having an issues that is specific to something wrong or outdated,etc... on your computer.

When it crashes are you getting the "Crash Error Report" where you can submit your email? If so have you been doing that? It can be very helpful allowing them to lookup what specific driver/dll or whatever is causing the crash..

I have had this issue on 2019.3 and .4 and 2 different computers. It's not really a crash report you can send as Inventor will just throw up an error and you can click ok and then you don't have the right-click menu anymore.

Disabling the Marking Menu,  I'd say the problem gets worse because at that point Inventor will just quit (no crash report) having the marking menu you can at least save and restart.

I have attached the error screenshot.

I have tried a few things already to fix this and can't seem to pinpoint the error. (update drivers, get rid of the 3D mouse, use a regular mouse instead of Logitech) no luck 😞

Did you disable antivirus software during installation of Inventor?

Some articles suggest that it can cause this type of issue..

and sadly some articles suggest this is remedied by installing the latest updates.. (seems this is/was a known problem others have had and they thought they fixed it.. Maybe not)..

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Error-Serious-error-The-system-cannot-find-the-file-specified-when-right-clicking-in-InventorError-during-right-click-appear-Serious-error-The-system-cannot-find-the-file-specified.html

I would work directly with Autodesk support to address this through a support ticket and see how that goes..

@johnsonshiue  Johnson, anything you can do for them here? Seems like this is something that requires direct Autodesk support

We used to have this problem very frequently, and I'll tell you what I know about it.

The core problem seems to be that the part being clicked on does not have an actual file associated with it (Most commonly seen when importing other CAD files, as the file isn't created until you hit "Save"), and knowing that makes it possible to actually avoid it. Specifically, some command in the marking menu seems to try and look at the 'file' of whatever is selected, but can't because said file doesn't exist.

In Inventor 2019 I had a line of code in the custom add-in that we used that looked at the Context Menu events and basically said "If the component selected has a save count of 0, break out of the context menu handling". Unfortunately that code no longer worked in 2020, but we had gotten used enough to avoiding it that it wasn't as necessary.

Addendum:

Easiest way to test if the cause of your issue is the same would be to make an assembly, use the "Place Imported CAD Files" command, insert a .stp or something, then right-click the freshly inserted part

Hi,

Could you mind sharing one video for your workflows to reproduce the issue? It will help the team to reproduce the issue easily.

Many thanks!

1. Check your windows mouse settings.

2. Check your mouse.

I am currently on 2020.3 Inventor Professional and this just started a few days ago.  I dont have issue with the RMB in any other software just Inventor.  Not AutCAD, Not Vault, Not any MS office product JUST Inventor.

Hi @twilhelm1,

Are you running Inventor on Mac? Another thing to try is to use Inventor Reset Utility (All Programs -> Autodesk -> Inventor 2020 -> Tools) to reset all Inventor application settings back to Install default. Please note that the UI customization will be reset too. So, it is better to back up the following folder.

"C:\Users\**your username**\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Inventor 2020"

Many thanks!

Hi! I am sorry that I cannot explain why it behaves like this. It could be Windows related or the user profile related. Try this and see if it makes a difference. Right-click on Inventor icon on the desktop -> Properties -> Compatibility -> check "Run as Admin."

Many thanks!

Dear all,

as far as I can tell, it only happens to me when I import a CAD file (stp or other format). The only solution i have found is to restart Inventor. Not ideal, but it gets you out of a pickle.

Kind regards,

Pieter

The right-click options disappear it seems after importing STEP files using the "Place imported CAD files". Exiting and restarting Inventor works to fix the disappearing act.
