Revit integration

Does someone use Revit together with Inventor? Is it possible to make buidings, concrete tanks, steel platforms and stairs in Revit, import the model into Inventor, and in Inventor do all the rest (3rd party equipement step files, pipingskids...?)

Once the revit model is placed into Inventor, it is there to stay. Can you just open the Revit model in Revit modify it, and all modifications are reflected in Inventor without doing any further steps? Is there a link that keeps the Revit model up to date without any hassle?

Hi @johan.degreef,

I'm by no means a Revit user but I do know that Inventor 2021 did bring Revit interoperability so you can work between Revit and Inventor almost seamlessly - I've seen some stuff on the Autodesk social media around the time of release.

Hi Johan,

The answer to your questions is "yes, it is doable." Like Leo mention here, Inventor 2021 enables associative update (AnyCAD Reference) workflows for .rvt files. Here are a few videos showing the workflows.

Has anyone experienced with it, or is it too new?

Hi! This particular workflow becomes available from 2021. We do have customers leveraging it to bring Revit data into Inventor.

Many thanks!

I just brought in (for the first time) a revit model into Inventor 2021 using the desktop connector through BIM 360.  It seems to have worked.  I'll know more in the coming weeks and months as I explore the functionality more.

I'm not a Revit user, so the way they do things is alien to me, but here are my initial observations:

Individual Revit elements (like a door, or wall), import as solid body (or multi body) parts.  Then those are organized into hierarchical folders in the assembly.

You can import as a reference file or convert it.  When I tried a reference file, I was unable to pick up updates when I fed it a new version of the revit file. . . not sure if that is my lack of understanding or a bug.  Convert worked just fine.

In one import attempt I hit a bug that sent Inventor into into an unending processing loop. I terminated it when it reached 80 GB private memory usage.

Hope that helps.

After a couple of weeks using this new revit workflow, it appears to be working.  I have now twice brought in new revisions of revit models and Inventor has updated those in the linked import.
