Remove file references from parts and assemblies

This isn't necessarily removed parts, but actually stress analysis and various things other than solid bodies that were removed from the assembly and subcomponents. My problem is, these were deleted 6 years ago on another machine and there's zero way of me getting them back to shut inventor up every time i open it.

I've had a look on the forums numerous times since then and have found nothing that helps. I just want to remove these references so it doesn't take my workstation 2 hours to open the file. I'm running Inventor Pro 2020. Any help on this one would be greatly appreciated because i'm not joking when I say it takes 2 hours to open.

Discovered a way to do this in the 2016 version and we're currently on 2019, so do not know if this is available in 2020 or not.

After you successfully open an assembly with a stress analysis, go to the Tools tab and click on the Links button/command.  Highlight the link and then click the Break link button.

I'm referencing an email I sent a cpl years ago so hopefully I captured everything you'll need to do.

Hi! Indeed, using Link command can break the link. But, if somehow the link is already corrupted, the Link command would not help.

Many thanks!

It worked for the situation where someone had not kept the analysis file/s with the Inventor part and/or assembly files and we were experiencing the same as the OP where the Resolve Link window would pop up.

At least it did for us on 2016.

Hope this works for the OP, it's frustrating to get that resolve link window let alone taking a very long time to open an assembly.

It is still working on 2021, thanks for the tip!

I have broken all the links to that type of file and I still get a list of errors listing those linked files when I try to check the assembly into Vault.

All links broken yet they are still a problem!

Hi George,

The link could be corrupted. Try something real quick. Demote all the components to a new subassembly. Then open the subassembly. Does Inventor still prompt you to resolve?

Many thanks!
