Hello,

Update is typical for something out of date, it requires incremental recompute for some of features. For example, if you modified a dimension with delay update via context menu show dimension, then, an update is need to recompute from this feature with incremental way.

However, Rebuild all does not care about out of date, it just recompute even nothing was changed for every features.

Hope it helps!

Hello Xun Zang,

Why is it that Inventor does not modify every file in the assembly? I don't see "*' appering behind every file. Just some?

Hi! If I recall correctly, Rebuild All only operates within the document. So, if you do it within an ipt file, all features will be recomputed. If you do it in an iam file, the assembly constraints, features, and adaptive component, flexible sub within the assembly will be recomputed. But, individual parts within the assembly are not recomputed for performance purpose. In general, Rebuild All should not be needed in the first place. It is because the Update button should be able to handle any pending update request. The need to have Rebuild All means something was wrong and a heavy-handed approach is needed to bring everything up-to-date. Are you seeing some unexpected behaviors?

Many thanks!

My company is working in vault for over 10 years, not all people are working as tight an decent as they should. Not everybody does it's local update's before they check in. A lot of them don't even understand what * or (+) means in the vault bar. We are trying to get the awareness up but even myself sometimes doubt if i understand al the bells and wissles of the * (+) local updat and rebuild all. It would be realy nice if Vault and inventor cooperatet a little bit more.

Your answere is another piece of the puzzle, thanks.
