Ram Overloads when Dropping in View of Assembly

I have a decent size assembly.  One critical component is a detailed surface.  For some reason Inventor overloads the ram when I try to drop the assembly into an .idw.  Any thoughts on a cause?

I2017, 64Gb RAM, other specs should be sufficient for the job.  Will follow-up with details per request.

How many unique parts and components do you have in your assembly?  You should be able to tell by the numbers on the bottom right corner of Inventor when you have the assembly open.  Would you be able to share your assembly with the Autodesk development team?

There's a meager 1085 in total.  I cannot share the model.

Hi! Does this behavior when the detailed surface part is excluded from the assembly (invisible or suppressed)? Regarding the detailed surface, is it derived or imported? If the detailed surface is the culprit, maybe some of the geometry is problematic. You could try using Split command to cut the surface and narrow down the bad geometry. Then you may use tools in Repair environment or Delete Face command to remove the badness. This is basically what I would do if you shared the file with me.
