Printing defaults to Letter instead of A4 despite settings (everywhere).

Hi everyone,

So we have an HP printer. In the printer all settings are set to A4 sized paper. in W10 all settings for the printer are set to A4 sized paper. Jet Inventor still (often) defaults to Letter size when printing to the HP A4 printer, causing the printer to complain about it. I need to go back to IV and print then go to the options-advanced and see it is set to letter instead of A4.

How do i get it trough to Inventor to get it to play nice and print to A4 rather than defaulting to Letter?

Not all IDW prints switch the paper size to Letter.

Could it be that there is something in the IDW template has printer paper size set to Letter eventhough the default sheet is A4?

TIA,

Niels

You sure its not an issue with your Inventor sheet size/print scaling settings?

Start a new drawing... Right click on "Sheet:1" in the model browser and select "Edit Sheet"

What size is set?

If you create your drawings on A4 (size set to A4) and then when printing set the Inventor print dialog to "Model 1:1" it should print perfectly on A4.

If you are not making your drawings on A4 sheets in Inventor then you likely need to select "Best Fit" which will then adjust the scaling to the paper size is set in the printer driver settings.

Hi,

In general a fresh design seems to work ok.

A new IDW has an A4 sheet by default. And printing shows the driver defaulting to A4 too.

I should look for some older IDW (that hasn't been touched in a year or so) and see how the system reacts to that A4 sheet. I'm absolutely sure all my IDW are on A sized paper. And had a default A4 sheet to start with.

That is how i set up my template from when i started with Inventor here some 12-13 years ago.

And the templates we use have been migrated to each newer release since then.

Currently to busy to go look for an older IDW to try with. Get back to that later...

OK. I tried something...

Well not really i suppose.... I started fresh with IV. opend an older file from the vault. CTRL-P. The dialog had our  large format HP printer selected (set to A3). switched it to the A4 HP printer and checked the papersize. It was set to Letter.

Closed everything. Fresh IV. new IDW from template (A4 sheet). CTRL-P again. still on the large format pinter. Switched to the A4 printer and it is set to Letter again.

The large format printer is set to have A1 (roll) and A3 sheets.

Almost like Inventor thinks that Letter is closest to A3 so it sets the printer paper to Letter. Even if the settings say that there is no Letter available. And that the IDW sheetsize is A4.

I found this by looking for pdf specific settings

Hope this helps.

I think it helped me but time will tell if windows decides otherwise
