Positional Representation disappeared from browser

A positional representation I created very painstakingly suddenly just disappeared from the browser. I don't know how else to describe it, but it just doesnt show up any more. Also noticed that other pos reps that were selected from within sub-assemblies also disappeared.

I am on Inventor Pro 2019.

Here is what I did:

1. Created a new Positional Representation, named it "Attached Position Max Z+". All good so far.

2. Went to Inventor Studio and started creating an animation but got an error something like could not this pos rep.

3. Returned back to Inventor to check whats wrong, but now I dont see that pos rep in browser

4. I thought the pos rep didnt save the last time so I went to create it again

5. Now I got the error "The name is already in use" although I cannot see it in the browser.

6. I thought may be a temporary issue, so restarted Inventor and computer

7. Opened the assembly again, still cant see the pos rep

8. Again attempted to create a new posrep with that name but got the same error (screen shot attached)

Did I just run into a bug? Or did I do something wrong?

Thanks in advance

The screenshot below shows it doesnt let me create a pos rep because it thinks the name already exists, but where is the pos rep with that name in the browser?

Hi! The behavior does not make sense. Could you take a screenshot of the browser and post it here?

Many thanks!

Some more updates:

Turns out it has got nothing to do with Inventor Studio, I  just lost another Pos Rep without even using Studio.

Here is what I did:

1. Already have a pos rep named "Stowed position" created yesterday .

2. Double clicked on Master pos rep to enable it.

3. Started creating a new pos rep , Right clicked on Position > New

4. Created new pos rep, and now I am overriding some constraints but I realized I need to make change some constraints.

5. So I double click on the other pos rep "Stowed position" to enable that.

6. I got a bunch of errors like Mate 5 not consistent etc... clicked Accept hoping to investigate further.

7. Scrolled up in the browser and now I cannot see the pos rep any more !!!! WTF !!!!

Although I know it is there because it doesnt let me create a new one with the same name. Very weird.

If Autodesk is investigating, I would be happy to help if you need more information.

Some more information to help debugging, see this screenshot:

All the pos reps that disappeared in Inventor still show up in this animation dialog, however the browser on the left doesn't list them, Aren't these two show the same list of available pos reps?

Remember (because I know you only have a few things on your mind Smiley LOL) that I posted about this https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-forum/positional-representation-disappeared-from-browser/m-p... awhile back and was identified as an issue.

Hi Guys,

Yes, this is a known issue. It does seem that Studio Animate PosRep workflow could corrupt the PosRep. I need to check our defect system and see if the issue has been fixed.

Many thanks!

Yes this seems to be exactly the same issue. This has to be a pretty high priority bug because its a potentially data loss issue.

After loosing the pos reps yesterday, I have created them all over again (with slightly different names because the previous ones still exist). Now I am really afraid to create an animation. What if I loose the posreps again? 😞

@Mark.LancasterYes, what i am facing seems exactly same as what you reported. This is a serious issue, its a potential data loss issue, has to be a pretty high priority bug for Autodesk.

@johnsonshiueI dont think this is fixed yet because I am on Inventor Pro 2019 but still please confirm with your defect tracking system.

Thank you guys for looking into this

I can confirm this issue is still a problem...

After doing everything you have mentioned above (turning off computer/ re nmaing etc etc) I started looking for why this was happening and stummbled across your post.

So to clarify I have made pos reps, done an animation, got the error now I don't have my pos reps shwoing in the browser.

Also on Inventor Pro 2019

Hi Guys,

I just checked the status of INVGEN-14041. It shows it was investigated but there is not yet a fix made unfortunately. If I have any meaningful update, I will let you know. The old thread Mark was mentioning is actually
