Plane Normal to Curve at Point is not aligned

Hello, dears,

I'm creating planes normal to curve at a point, but sometimes the plane is not created aligned, or 90º. Why? 😞

Please take a look at the images below. the Work Plane 7 "blue" has this problem.

If I create a sketch it won't be aligned with all the other kinds of stuff.

Thanks a lot!

Fabio S.

It is because you are created a plane normal to a spline, at least that's what it looks like.  The plane is perpendicular to the spline at the point you selected but it may not be normal to other geometry in your part.  If you want to create a plane aligned with the "Orange" plane then select that plane and the point to create it parallel with the plane and going through the point.

Hi andrewiv, thanks for your reply.

All the other planes are normal to spline too.

But, only this is not aligned.

I can not understand it. Everything is aligned, but sometimes any plane is created with no alignment.

Thanks a lot!

I use this functionality on a regular basis.

Attach your *.ipt file here for diagnosis.

Hi! The part you attached did not have Workplane 7. Please share which plane is not right.

Many thanks!

The ipt file attached has the same problem.

Hi, JDMather,

Very nice! You did it!

For now, please explain to me your secret! 😁

Thanks!

FS.

Well, I guess I got lucky.  🙄

I finished it and then realized I had done it on the wrong planes compared to your original.

Then I tried to reproduce (twice) relative to the same planes that you used and the User Workplanes did not align.

Pinging @johnsonshiue

I am not sure that is critically important to you.

You could simply right click on the View Cube and set the Top view, but this doesn't change the sketch planes.

I have never worried about this Workplane alignment as I simply Project a reference to use.

Hello!

We cannot work based on "lock", in my case, ever with applying constraints, the difference is not acceptable.

Take a look, I got a 3.83º difference between the planes.

BTW, Thank you! 😔

I never use Locked except with Sketch Blocks - which is a different topic.

Hi JD!

Sorry, I did not understand your last reply.

But, I discovered an interesting thing:

If I start a part using the view below, I have no problem with the workplane alignment.

But I will if I start a new part using this view:

For this moment, all right and the work is running.

Thanks a lot!

FS!

Hi Folks,

I don't have definite answer to the behavior. But, I think this has something to do with the sketch plane. The Main:WP is tilted against the origin planes (except being perpendicular to XZ). The workplane orientation does not have a persistent bias. I guess it was based on the curve normal and tangent from the 2D sketch with respect to the origin coordinate system. Though it may look odd, I don't think there is a workflow or a solution to make it perfectly aligned to a reference plane.

Many thanks!
