Placing X_T files into Inventor

I have received .x_t files and I want to know how to correctly place it and turn it into a part file.

Do I need some type of converter like a Parasolid?

I am in an assembly file......in the middle of "Placing Imported CAD Files". I can see the status bar at 95%, and it's gradually placing .ipt files in the folder I created for it.

Obviously, I am doing something wrong. Must be a simpler way

OK. The file I opened yesterday is version 2019, so you won't be able to use it.  I'll try it in 2018.

Success with Inventor 2018, too.  I've uploaded the file to A360.  Note that it is one part file containing 1429 solid bodies.

By the way, the file would be noticeably smaller if the creator hadn't engraved the vLTm logo on every single piece of this model, which is actually Lego® parts...

is there a way to convert an assembly file to a part file?

Shortest route is to derive the assembly into a part file: start a new part, then used the Derive tool; Derive allows you to choose which components are included as well as a number of other options.

You might also try Shrinkwrap or Simplify.

I am trying to convert this X_T file to an inventor file by bringing it into Inventor and then saving it as an inventor file but it only loads to 37% and then stops and causes Inventor to crash. I tried changing my file to a step file but it loaded this screen I have never seen before, please see the screenshot below.

I am using Inventor 2024

The file is 89,330 KB

Hi Sandra,

The behavior is usually file specific. Please share the file with me directly johnson.shiue@autodesk.com. I would like to understand it better. In the meantime, please try viewing it on viewer.autodesk.com. Does it work?

Many thanks!

I have opened an x_t file in Inventor and now have an Assembly file.

However, two of the included files are "surface models" and I cannot 3D print them.

Is it possible the convets the "surface models"to solid models.

Thanks for your help.

In theory, yes.  But it depends very much on why the parts didn't get saved as solids.  If they're missing some faces, then you'll have to create the missing faces, which can range from very simple to extremely complicated.  If you can post the files here, somebody will either do the job for you or show you how, or tell you that it's not worth the vast amount of work involved.
