Part parameter in assembly

Hi,

I've drawn up all our parts and I'm putting an assembly together. Could someone explain how I can change the length of one part in just the assembly without it changing in the part drawing? This part we can use across multiple drawings at various lengths. The length would be updated manually. I've been researching on-line but haven't been able to find anything yet.

Also does anyone know how I may cut a cylinder in half on a 45 degree angle? I've drawn a split pin and want to finish the ends of but haven't been able to get it to work yet.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Xun,

I didn't realise that Inventor couldn't do that yet. I'm using 2014 at the moment but hopefully in the near future we'll move to 2018. So this means for each assembly we'll have to copy the part drawing that's variable for now to generate the correct model. For example we can't just use one M12 bolt in a drawing and adjust it's size in the assembly but model each bolt length?

I also had a look at your video, it doesn't look like 2014 has a direct option. I've attached my 2 ipt files and the 2D image of the split pin I have modeled from. My next challenge is to constrain the split pin in the head pin.

The head pin is the one I was trying to adjust in my overall assembly as it can be used in multiple builds and vary in length.

Thanks for your help Xun.

Regards,

Joe
