Part Color

Hello. I'm using Inventor Professional 2015, and in the drawing environment, I'm creating section views of my parts, but the color override I've designated to the part is causing the sliced sections to be colored as well. It's really just a paint job, and so I'd ideally like the sliced sections to be the steel color, while the outside surfaces are my paint color. Is there an easier way to do this than selecting each individual surface and coloring them? One of the pieces has a 48 tooth pattern to it that'll take an awful lot of clicking. Unfortunately, I don't have permission to share the Assembly. Thanks very much.

Don't use shaded views or just turn off shaded for your section views..

To clarify, the section views are of the whole assembly, so if I turned off the shaded views, I'd have some parts that aren't sliced suddenly missing their paint. Obviously, this isn't an earth-shattering issue, but consistent and accurate coloring would look nicer than not having it. If there's no easier way, I'll just suck it up and start grabbing faces

I'd just turn off shaded for all section views and simply include a note along the lines of "Coloring not shown in section views"

Much easier than having to do manual selection work..

I'm not where I can open Inventor at the moment, but I know that in a part file, with the Appearance Browser open you can window select faces and then right click on the appearance you want applied and select "Apply to Selection" or something like that.  I expect that it works the same in an assembly.  But it only works with the Appearance Browser open.

Hope that helps,

Perfect. Thanks. That's just the kind of shortcut I was hoping for.....a little ridiculous I didn't think of it since I was using that same method to remove overrides just a few minutes ago.
