Parameters for a simple piece.

Hello there! I'm not gonna beat around the bush here, I'm a student, and currently learning CAD. I'm not looking for outright answers, but pointers would be greatly appreciated. So here's the problem.

I'm fiddling around with Inventor for an assignment, but I'm stuck on how to set up parameters so the part have variable length and number of holes. Sadly the book that's used for my class doesn't really explain on how to actually do this for anything other than a Lego piece. And I can't really apply what's told in the book for this example.

I'm sure this is super easy, but I'm really struggling to get this to work.

Accepted solution

Make a hole feature and pattern that, instead of making patterns in the 2D sketch.
At the Manage tab, go to parameters to find which one is your part's length (580), and use this variable in a formula entered as an input value for the number of holes to be repeated in your pattern.

@ioor

Attach the *.ipt file of your attempt here.

Where is your instructor?  Isn't that the purpose of an instructor - to fill in the gaps the book doesn't cover?

Can you ask your instructor to join this discussion?

My teacher is on leave until October 23rd, and the due date is 21st. And the temp teacher have not responded to my mails nor my calls. So this was a last ditch effort to get some help.
