Order

How does the order determine by in IAM file?

Because I tested by changing the constraining part order it didn’t work.

Answer is not clear enough because I tested it by changing the constraining part order but it didn’t work.

The order (numbering of constrains) is determinated by the order you create them.

Changing the order: Why is this important to you?

Tip: Don't mess too much with the constrains order dragging it , you will enconter some problem issues.

If you want to change some  constrains order, sometimes it's better to delete and create again.

It all depends on what you're constraining. If could vary as you learn more.

However it's not a huge issue, as you see in my browser I don't have the names in it.

say you have 2 part, the one you pick first is usually the one to move if they have degrees of freedom.

That's why I said it depends on what you're doing ...

making a screencast to show you

You can see in my image Pentashaft is coming 1st and Central Key is 2nd . In the 2nd line Central Key is 1st and Pentashaft is 2nd.

I am not going to change it, just to know it.

In your browser you don't have not only names but two parts are grounded. I didn’t come to that level.

I was just pointing that out ... that I don't use the names, or reference them at all ...

I know how I want to pick things after years of doing it (and sometimes I still mess up and pick backwards)  ..it's not a critical thing.  It's really just showing you what the constraint is for, what parts are involved when you're looking at them, or if you have a sick constraint.  That's it in my option.

Saying you have 100 parts and 10 are constrained to a plate and you want to change the type, edit it, change  a distance .. the names on would help you..

Hi fiatnm

If I understand what you're asking, it is the order of the names of the components in the constraint that you asking about?

In these illustrations, you can see that I've selected the gusset, then the plate, but the resulting constraint reads: Mate:1(Plate,Gusset)

So this seems backward.

If I selected them in reverse, plate then gusset, the resulting constraint reads: Mate:1(Gusset,Plate)

Still backward.

I don't have an answer, and didn't test this other than these 2 parts. But it seems like we cannot rely on the name order to determine selection order.

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,
Curtis
