Old Versions save when project file is set to 0

So, we are using IV 2018.2 and I have just noticed that our OldVersions folders are saving files even though the project file options for "old versions to keep on save" is set to "0". We have a nightly server backup so, we don't need to save the old versions. Has anyone else seen this behavior? Really caught me by surprise. It didn't used to do that, at least I thought.

Thanks in advance,

Todd

Todd,

That is bizarre.  Sure it is not accessing a different project file?

Also, you did type "0" and not "O". Smiley Tongue

Thanks Scott,

Multiple users on a single project, pretty sure everyone is using the same project file. I checked with my cohorts. The setting looks like a 0 to me...I attached an image just in case.

Odd, check in the parts/assemblies iProperties that the status is set to "Released" from "Work in Progress". Then in windows explorer, RMB on your work directory to bring up it's properties. You will find the "Purge" function, selecting this will then clean up your Old-Versions folders.

If the part still has a "Work in Progress" status, Inventor will still keep old functions.

Just insert the picture rather than attaching it as a file

Thanks Blair,

I checked and the files are set to Released. The purge will help me clean up the files but, every time someone saves after that, more files will be created. I'm trying to figure out why. I was looking for a way to embed the image but couldn't figure it out. I guess I could use some help there as well.

Thanks,

Todd

Ooops, did some more checking and found a file set to work in progress. I guess I'll have to do some more investigation...

You said "pretty sure everyone is using the same project"..

A quick test is to simply see if the old versions are being created when you save a document..

If not move onto the next user and rinse/repeat until the problematic user is found..

As for images...

Even with backup, oldversion is still a good idea.

I use 5 versions of oldversion, daily backup to local drive and weekly backup to server.

Oldversion allow recover recent user mistakes.

Daily bring back yesterday.

Just set backup to ignore OldVersion folders.

I ran a test and confirmed that the "work in progress" status was causing the oldversions. Thanks!

Cheers,

Todd
