Offset surfaces

A typical workflow (in Solidworks) for creating a wire, would be to add a new part to an assembly, and then edit this new part.  I then would be able to use the offset surface feature (with a value of zero), and click both the start and end surfaces, but also any reference surfaces I wanted to avoid, go around, or through.  

I'm looking for the Inventor equivalent workflow,
