Need help importing a 3rd party library

I have a Content Center library that I downloaded from an equipment manufacturer. I think it was created using Inventor 2022. Our Content Center is managed by Vault and I would like to upload this library into our Vault using the Library Transfer Guide tool in Inventor. The problem is that we are using Inventor 2025 and Vault 2025. When I go to upload the 3rd party library, there is a warning icon beside the name and I cannot upload it.

Is there some fancy trick I can do to get this library into a form that my Inventor/Vault will accept?

Thanks in advance,

Hi @dhaverstick ,

Library Transfer Tool can be used only if library is migrated to the matching server version (so only library migrated to 2025 can be transferred to the Vault Server 2025). See below as references:

 https://help.autodesk.com/view/INVNTOR/2025/ENU/?guid=GUID-CC66179D-5EDF-4754-8279-2C5DF9BD1EC7

Warning icon probably means that you cannot use this library as it is not migrated yet (this yellow warning message I can see also in this article - https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-migrate-cus...).

I believe you need to migrate first your custom library to the 2025 in Invnetor and then you can try transfer it to the Vault server using Library Transfer Tool - https://help.autodesk.com/view/INVNTOR/2025/ENU/?guid=GUID-CEA48D57-577A-4551-BD71-9303AEAEC5DC

Side note - on your screenshot I see that 3rd party library is read-only. Not entirely sure why it is that (as far as I am aware custom libraries are read/write mostly). I think you might need to make that library read/write first (that read-write thing is mentioned also here - https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-forum/question-about-content-center-library-transfer/td-p/75...).

I also found few resources on why it can be read-only:
https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Inventor-Custom-Co...
https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Why-new-custom-con...

I hope that helps!

Arek,

I know how to migrate libraries in Vault but I am unclear how to migrate this particular library. It has a ".idcl" file extension and was created to use as a desktop library, I guess. How do I get it into a ".mdf" file so I can manually attach it to my vault and then migrate it? Is that even possible?

Thanks,

Darren

Nevermind, I figured it out. The library file was read-only for me because the way Windows installed it and assigned ownership. Once I changed my permissions to read-write, I was able to migrate the library and then upload it to our Vault.
