Moving views to different sheet causes instability / bug

Does anyone else have an issue moving views around to different sheets. I do it quite frequently and have found since using 2018 i experience inventor crashing with a significantly increasing frequency after moving views to other sheets.

also, I seem to have issues where side views are not always carried across to the next sheet when moving groups of views to other sheets even though they are selected.

Any help would be great.

Thanks.

Hi Matt,

Did you send crash reports when it happened? If yes, could you send an email to me directly ([email protected])? I would like to dig up the report and understand the crash better.

Many thanks!

I haven't submitted any yet, I'll send the next one and email you the information, thanks. It shouldn't be too long, I have had at least 5 in the last few hours.

The bug where all of the views selected aren't moved to the new sheet isn't tied to the crash error though. It's a separate issue on its own.

Thanks, Matt.

I explained this in one of my rant post I did send in a report when it crashed. I don't remember where to find the log. refresh me and I will send..

The crash will happen and repeatable if you keep trying to drag multiple views to new sheet. It will not crash on the 1st try I think it was like the 5th time trying because I kept thinking I was doing something wrong so I was watching every step and on the 5th or so Inventor crashed.

I tested again after the crash and crashed again around the 5th time trying but did not give option to send report again..

I found the more views you try at the same time the faster it will crash as well.. I was trying to drag 6 views..

Hi James,

Did you send in the reports before? If yes, could you send me an email so I can dig up the reports?

Many thanks!

I don't think I have to now..

I figured it out it is another workflow issue.. But I think this one we may be able to live with after cursing a million times because you keep forgetting..

I pick the views I want to go to another sheet from the graphics window it is just easier then picking from browser at times.

Like pick view 1 from graphics window hold Ctrl select other views. no longer holding Ctrl you move to the browser pick one view and drag all views over. It holds your selection. (2012 way)

Now if you pick view 1 from graphics window hold Ctrl select other views. NOW you must keep holding Crtl when you select the view to start drag in the browser it loses your selection if you don't..

Here is a video to show you..

Hi James,

It is a mystery to me too. I am an active user on the forum but I don't have admin rights.

Many thanks!

Hi James,

This is a very good catch! I am able to reproduce it on my machine. This behavior did start from 2018. It was not reproducible on 2017 or earlier. I vaguely remember seeing a similar thread talking about this behavior but I cannot find it now.

Let me work with the product team to understand the behavior better.

Many thanks!

Thanks your video and problem reporting. Yes, it's a known regression in Inventor 2018.We have other customer(s) met the same problem:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-forum/selection-behavior-when-moving-views-has-changed-in-20...

The problem is tracked in our internal bug system and team is working on the fix. We will let you know if there is any update. Sorry about the inconvenience.

Is there any way to recover the crash reports? I had the crash two more times but each time just automatically clicked cancel because that's what i usually do. So if it is a known issue, is there any idea on how long it will take to fix? I guess it'll probably be another "Fixed in the next release of Inventor" thing.

Thanks, Matt.

Hi Matt,

If you did send the crash report, please send an email to me ([email protected]). I should be able to find the reports you submitted and get better understanding of the crash. I cannot promise when it will be fixed but at least I could find out why and the next logical step.

Many thanks!
