I downloaded this file form a supplier site. When I open file, I can see nothing. If I insert it into an assembly than I can see it as I should. Open part from assembly and again I can see nothing?

I am very confused here! Can anyone make sense of what is happening?

Hello ACritchelow,

I am not sure what's happened on your Inventor but it seems to work fine on mine.
The attached is what I tried to open the stp file in my environment. There are three components in the assembly which is different from yours.
Could you please try to open it from stp again?
Thanks,

Hi @ACritchelow,

I don't see any problem in my end with Inventor 2018 either.

What's your Inventor version?

Thanks!

I am using Inventor professional 2018. I have downloaded a Hinge from McMaster Carr as a stp and am still having the visibility problem. I have attached the Translation report & a screenshot of inventor.

One thing here is the navigation wheel is not visible in the upper right corner like normal. I don't know what would affect this.

Your first mistake was downloading as stp file.

Download as SOLIDWORKS file and simply open it.  Inventor can read the SW file and then you can save it as an inventor file.

I have done so for hundreds of files with no problems.

@Xun.Zhang and @MSD_takaseh

I see the same results as the OP under Inventor 2018.2.3 (based on attached part file).  I was looking at this earlier and didn't get a chance to dive deep into why it was happening.

Update:  I think the issue is related to its document appearances.  When I select one of the faces and change its appearance, the selected face shows up.  When I select appearance to look at the document appearance information, Inventor locks up.

Update #1:  Sorry for the many updates..  I just opened the step file and it works, but the part file the OP provided is not..  @ACritchelow I'm thinking the issue is related to your standard.ipt template.  Do you still have your original one (Standard.ipt)?  Did you ever modify it (Standard.IPT)?

I see a number of issues here.

1. Your screen capture does not match the files that you attached here?

@TheCADWhisperer

The OP indicated they try another part from McMaster Carr and the results was the same..  So in this discussion the OP started with one thing and showed the results from another part later on.  Smiley Wink

I added The standard.ipt and the Standard.iam to our template directory. This seams to have resolved the issue. Thanks you all for all the assistance.

We have just updated to 2018 and in 2017 I know that we did not have the standard templates in our template directory and we often download from many different suppliers. Is there any reason why this has now become an issue in Inventor 2018?

I guess you figured the source issue.

This a workaround.
