Move and align a surface body to a solid body in a part file

Hi, I'm creating a model of a multi-link automotive suspension in Inventor 2015. I have already created most of it's non-critical geometry as a solid body part file.  Then I've got a part file that consists of a series of surface bodies showing all the critical pivot points, which I will call the critical points file from now on.

I have managed to use "derive" to bring the critical points file into my solid body part file, with a view to using the critical points as reference geometry to build the suspension pivot points on my solid body file.

The problem is the critical points file comes in at 90 degrees to the solid body file.  I want to do all this in a single part file if possible, which means I can't use the constraint tools in the assembly environment to align the two parts.

I think I need to rotate the critical points file to the same origin coordinates system as the solid body.  I've tried creating UCS's in the same place on both files, but this doesn't change the orientation either part once I derive.  Id really like to avoid having to redraw my solid body on the same origin coordinates as the critical points file.

Is there any way to re-align the origin coordinates of one of the two files? If not, is there a way to constrain the critical points file to the solid body in a similar way to how you add constraints in the assembly work space?

Alternatively, is there a way I can align and combine the two files in an assembly drawing, then derive a single  stand alone .ipt file from that assembly that isn't linked back to the original part files?

Thanks for your time.

Regards,

Archie

Hi,

You could use move bodies to make your "critical points file" align to the solid body file.

Hope this is what you're after!

1. Move/Rotate Body as needed.

2. or Assemble and Derived Component.

Attach your file(s) here if you can't figure it out.

I knew there must have been a function like that, it was hiding in my modify tab.

Thanks for your help everyone.
