materials densities are incorrect in inventor 2020

Hello,

 

I have a similar problem in Inventor with material density.

When I pick a shape from Content Center, this program set the material to Steel, Mild. When I check the weight of assembly, i realise this value is wrong. Then I open a shape and check the wight. I see the density is 1.000 g/cm^3.

I can't change the base material. It is important for me, this standar material would be correct. Naturally I can change it in BOM, but i would like to set the base material correct.

The second way I change the base material, but i can't change the material of Content Center elements.

 

Please help me!

Can you Zip and Attach an example *.ipt file that exhibits this behavior?

Check the density value for Steel,Mild itself.. Someone likely changed it in either the document or global material

Our standard.ipt use a new, own Material Library. I named it TRM ECL and it is a default. I tried to add the Steel, Mild from Locked Audesk Material Library to standard file and check the density. Now it is OK. Then i tried to create a new shape, and the Material density goes wrong. The density of Steel, Mild in Standard.ipt is OK.

I don't use central Material Library. I create a new Library (it names TRM ECL) and it is copied to my colleagues PCs. The type of IPJ is vault file. I check out this file, and I change the default material library, then check in. Then all collegaues get this file. In Inventor 2019 I change the Inventor Material Library. Now I rewrite the base Inventor Material Library. Intresting for me, this problem material located in Autodesk Material Library. When I add this Material to standard file it will be ok, but when i create a new shape from contetnt Center it goes wrong.

How I change the content center base Material Libroary or base ipt. I cant find the special options or other to change it.

Hello,

 

I found a problem. I reset the original Iventor Material Library. Then I inserted a new shape in the assembly and open it, i saw the problem in Material Browser. You can see the attached picture.

Of course the density is wrong.

Hi,

 

Before I overwrited it saved this file to an another folder (it named Old). In this case I can restore the original file. Unfortunately it didn't give solution.

 

I don't know where from get the shape standard ipt. When I see the information of steel, mild, and i see the attach data.

Hi,

 

I opened your provided DIN file using the default Inventor ipj which references the as shipped material/appearance libraries. Using Manage, Update you can see that your Mild Steel differs from that in the proper library. The Manage, Update corrects it.

 

This tells me that "your" material library contains incorrect data. You can correct other occurrences of this in batch using Task Scheduler, Update Design. (Select your problem files/folders then go to Options & select Update Local Materials & Appearances). Before you do this you need to ensure that you are either pointing to the Inventor Material library in your project or correct your own library. You could correct your library by updating a Mild Steel material first from the Inventor library & then use Manage, Save to save that back to your own library, (or drag/drop to your library in the material editor).

 

A few things to consider when creating your own library:

 

Never copy/modify an as-shipped library in windows explorer - each material/appearance has a unique guid & copying the file in explorer does not address that. You should first create your own new empty library & then copy/modify materials/appearances from the as-shipped libraries as required. Once you have your library configured you can make that the default in your project; whether you leave the as-shipped libraries defined in the project or not, depends on how you prefer to control the available materials/libraries for downstream use.

Hi,

 

Thank you for your answer. The Style Update tool woks well in Inventor, and also the Design Update in Task Schedule.

Unfortunately the Task Schedule can't work with Vault project file, but I tried it with default.ipj.

These couldn't solve my problem. This Steel, Mild located in Autodesk Material Library and this library default locked.

When I insert a shape the Content Center get the material asset from this. End of this task the material density is wrong.

I can't modify the Autodesk Material Library and the default Content Center material.

I don't know why the phisical material data are in USA standard unit. We use EU unit. I set in this in all templates.

Basically you need to ensure that the Steel, Mild material in your default library (as specified in your ipj file) is correct.  That should be what's used when referencing things from content center. If it's not correct in the default library then it won't work properly.

 

As a test, create a mild steel part from content center & then use the place as custom option not place as standard; ensure to create a cc part that you have never created before (to avoid any cached cc files), then check the density. If it's wrong, use Manage, Update to see if is updated correctly from your default library.

 

What's the outcome ?

Hello,

 

Whatever I try just update style solve this problem. I want to avid this update method when we construct a steel structural.

As a test I will create a content center shape copy and I modify the base material.

The steel, mild physical data is correct everywhere. The project file and default material library is correct. No more ideas.

HI, I AM SEEING A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH AN .IPT I CREATED.

THE DENSITY FOR MILD STEEL IS 7.85/G/CM^3

IF I "MAKE COMPONENTS" FROM THIS .IPT, THEN THAT FIXES THE PROBLEM BUT THIS CAUSES A LOT OF EXTRA WORK THAT SEEMS UNNECESSARY FOR JUST GETTING THE MASS FOR THIS.

Hi! It is possible the material style (physical asset) is corrupted or the sheet metal style is corrupted somehow. Please share the part here. I would like to understand the behavior better.

FYI, it is convenient to type in all capped letters. But it is very hard to read.
