Mate & Angle constraint

In order to stop WASHER rotates I tried to Mate origin plane with washer plane but it didn’t work but Angle constraint stopped washer rotation. What is reason for that?

 

This washer already has two mate constrain to correctly position it with Conic Coupler surface.

Nothing has moved.

Answer the questions in Post #15 and you will know the solution.

 

The Origin planes/axis/centerpoint are perfect.

When you use these for your assembly constraints - the assembly is rock solid, even when the parts are edited.

Remember in sketching how we emphasized using the Origin Planes (the BORN Technique)?

 

In assembly we don't just throw all of that out of the window.

Use Symmetry.

Use the Origin Planes.
Use Logic.

Did you use Origin Planes to Mate?

Or did you use sides of key and keyway to mate?

 

Are the sizes of the key and keyway identical width?

 

-It is not identical in the given drawing. So that sketch is like that.

 

If answer is no, and you use sides to mate - will the workplanes be lined up?

 

I do not understand this question. I need time to clarify this question.

 

Or will the sides of the part be mated against each other on one side with clearance on the other side?

 

I do not understand this question as well.

The correct answer is No, I did not use the planes, I used the sides of the key and keyway.

Planes were selected from model widow, I don’t know why it is wrong?

No.

Planes WERE NOT selected for your Mate 10 and Mate 11.

You selected the sides of the key and keyway.

 

Inventor doesn't lie.

 

Your error occurs before the Washer part.

 

The washer has no keyway.

 

All of my questions have referred to KEY and KEYWAY.

(See Post #15.)

Hi Fiatnm,

 

You might consider just deleting all of your constraints (relationships) and try again. Use the Isolate tool to show only the components you want to constrain at the moment, and then use the Undo Isolate tool to bring all of the others back.

 

Here I show using only Insert constraints and Angle constraints to constrain the entire assembly***. I'm not suggesting that this is the best way, but it demonstrates how one method.

 

Don't feel you need to copy this method, but do explore the Isolate tool as it will help you when placing constraints, and particularly when fixing constraint issues.

Problem was I was talking about the WASHER you were talking about the CONIC COUPLER. Yes I used keyway to constrain CONIC COUPLER. Which was wrong because width of the keyway was not identical to key and it created many subsequent problems.

 

Once again importance of using the Born Technique was understood.

 

Now I can understand the problem.

I couldn’t understand a part in your model. Hexcoupling has a flat face in one end but your part has an offset face.

Keep looking - there is at least one other mistake as well.

That is pretty drastic solution, it is much easier than that.

But since is was my (incorrect) solution rather than your work - you probably should do over from scratch.

Actually, do it both ways.

Fix my assembly and then reproduce it from scratch.

 

Edit:  I did simply use your parts in the assembly and as far as I know - you have not attached dimensioned drawings.

So if the parts are not modeled correctly that is either your mistake or the drawings are wrong.  I can't take the blame for incorrect parts - only my assembly of those parts.

If parts are few redoing is not a problem but if many redoing is a problem. Is there any standard method to fix the error?

What if the parts are correct, but one of the assembly constraints between Conic Coupler:1 and Octacam:1 is causing the interference? Smiley Wink

 

Can you remove one of those constraints and place another one to resolve the interference? Smiley Wink

I did the way you mentioned but there is a problem. If I solved the issue with the LHS part, the RHS part is interfering.

LHS = Left Hand Side ?  RHS = Right Hand Side ?

 

Ooops! I think I probably did suggest starting at the wrong end to fix this. Smiley Embarassed

 

I'm just guessing, but from the Grounded Part discussion, it is the Piston being grounded that is preventing you from fixing the  Conic Coupler and Octacam interference first.

 

So I would try to fix the Piston interference, by removing a constraint (or constraints) and adding constraints (if required) so that the entire assembly (minus the piston) slides back and forth on the Central Key.

 

Then you can fix the Conic Coupler and Octacam interference.

 

Fixing these kinds of constraint issues without deleting all constraints and starting over is a good skill to learn. Often in the real world, if we start over we might break the drawing and annotations of the assembly, or upset other assemblies that use this one, so we must take this "surgical" approach of removing just specific constraints.

 

For practice exercises, where there is no drawing involved, and no other assembly using this one, it's often quicker just to remove them all and start over. But try the "surgical" approach first.
