Manage links in assembly

Hello,

I have an assembly that contains parts, where i have made some links between then.

For example I have a metal stamping die, where I have the main surface of the die in strip layout, and I copy that surface to the stamping die to draw it.

Now I have the need to replace that surface with a new one. While I was drawing the tool other collegue was finishing the details of that surface (spring back compensatiom, some drawbeads, some radius adjustaments...) Now i need to import the new surface and replace with the old one. Do I have the need to go in every single part that I copied that surface and make a new link, or there is an easy way to manage that?

Hi Tiago,

Without seeing an actual example, it is a bit hard to comment further. In general, you want to keep the association easy to understand. I believe you are using Copy Object command. The linked reference node in the browser should show where the geometry came from (which occurrence in the assembly). There isn't a replace workflow. You can right-click on the linked Composite feature -> Redefine -> pick the new source.

So it means that i need to do it part by part. Is no something like change it from the part where the surface is located?

Here, there is a model built according to a surface, and with a surface change (in Alias), the model updated by it self. Unfortenately I don't have alias, and all springback compensation will be made in other application. So I will only be able to receive those surfaces in STP or igs. How do i need to build my desing, for when i receive my new surfaces, don't have the need to go part by part where those surfaces are linked. I would like to change it only in the part where those surfaces are located, and automatically the other parts recognize that there was a surface change.

Hi Tiago,

If you are using Inventor 2017 and later, you could use STEP (STP) AnyCAD workflow. The trick is to import the STEP file as reference (associative) as opposed to converted (unassociative). When the STEP file is updated in the exporting system, Inventor will update accordingly similar to Alias -> Inventor workflow showing in the video.
