Losing part constraints when importing STEP file

Hi,

I am importing STEP files into inventor 2024, and when I open the file, the constraints for all parts are lost.

Is there a fix for this or am I missing a step during the import process?

Currently I open inventor, open new file, and select the STEP file for the assembly from the folder. I can retrieve the assembly, but without any existing part constraints.

The step file contains geometry information. It does not contain information about constraints.

Hi kacper,

thank you for advising me. I was unaware of this. is there a way to convert the STEP file to a format which locks all the parts in their location relative to other components? The STEP file is of a static structure (no moving parts in the original assembly)

You can select all items in the browser and select Grounding in the context menu.

I did try this, and highlighted all parts, but when I right click to select Grounded from the drop down menu, the "Grounded" text is shaded and unable to be selected.

I may ask the supplier to send to me as a Pack and Go file?

Try again on individual items.
Yes, you can ask questions, but forum members have no influence on this.

@licencesVQWSW

On the Productivity tab dropdown select Ground and Root...

Hold Shift key and select first component and last component.

(Or hold Ctrl if you only want to ground certain components or a combination of Shift and Ctrl.)
