Lack of uninstall strings for old updates

Hi,

In my company we have various product configurations, and total amount of users is around 60.

I use to update all my Autodesk products frequently and always keep it up to date.

The natural proces is installation of products >>patching >>uninstalling>> installaing a new version.

I've completely automated every chain in this process and do it remotely without touching users computers.

I struggle with one irrational thing - how can i uninstall old updates without uninstallation strings ?

You (Autodesk) delete old updates immidiately after realesing a new ones, so users are unable to retrieve uninstall strings for old updates ... Can you fix this and preserve uninstall strings in manage.autodesk.com ?

There is a lot of updates during one year, and all of the have to be deleted.

People need uninstall strings for uninstalling products after 1 year or more, not to uninstall only new updates.....

Best Regards ,

Hi! Is this specific to Vault Pro or all Autodesk products you are using?

Many thanks!

Hi! I assume these double-dot updates were installed via .msp, not .exe, right? I don't believe there is a way to install .msp. You will need to uninstall the single dot update.

The double-dot updates are accumulative. You don't need to install one after another. For example, after you install 2020.3 update, you can install 2020.3.2 update (it contains 2020.3.1 also).

Many thanks!

Hi,

I would like to assure you, that you're wrong.

msiexec.exe throws an error when you try to uninstall updates the way you mentioned ( i did tests)

You have to start uninstallation in proper order, starting from the highest version and moving downwards.

Beside that - if you have installed versions like this: 2019.4>2019.4.1>2019>4.2>2019.4.3>2019.4 (not 2019.4>2019.4.4)

Uninstalling 2019.4.4 wil reveal 2019.4.3 after uninstallation.

Could you deliver the uninstall strings to products i mentioned in post above ?

I exactly know what i want to achieve.

Hi! I am sorry I must have misunderstood the issue. Here is a tip that our Install expert shared with me.

Go to Regedit and go to the following location.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

Select a product or update. The Uninstall string will appear in the right panel.

Many thanks!

Hi,

Have already tried to do it this way. I need these code directly from
Autodesk. Apparently the codes for patches/hotfixes are not stored in the
location mentioned by you.

Is there any chance you can find them in your internal repository ?

It's really irrational, that the codes are not stored for instance with path
notes..

For Inventor 2019 the hotfix installer was a 32-bit install so the hotfixes show up under the 32-bit registry section.  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall  There you can find the individual hotfixes and uninstall syntax.

Thanks,

Danny

Guys,

I need exactly the same codes as in original description of patches deleted from the updates section in Autodesk account.

I have found they keys in location mentioned by @DannyHubbard  but they are not working, because they're not the codes for msiexec. You can even do a simple comparision (It applies to whatever update you choose)

Snag_56c4d36.png

The Solution is very simple:

1. Please deliver the same codes as given in updates description (It has to be somewhere in your repository)

2. Preserve the codes along with updates changelogs in the future

PS.

I am pointing the real existing problem. Do you need another 50 users to confirm, that update ID should be preserved and always available ?

Sorry for the delay I am checking with development to see if it is possible to uninstall these updates just using MSIEXEC and a product id and get a list of the product ids from them.

What error did you get when trying to use the uninstall strings from the registry?

I tried it here and it worked fine for me, though I did add a quiet (for no UI) and norestart switch

"C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\{9a1f9a58-2300-4070-a205-6c527fca8545}\Inventor2019.4.7.exe" /uninstall /quiet /norestart

Thanks,

Danny
