Double clicking on a IPJ file is not opening that IPJ files and setting it to active in Inventor.

I just installed the 2021.2 update, and just tried opening Inventor by double clicking on a .ipj file.  Inventor 2021 started, but did not display the home screen and did not activate the project that I double clicked on.  Is that what you're seeing, or something different?

Hi Sam,

Yes that's it. I have always opened my project folders this way as it was such a easy thing to do, now I have to create a link in inventor to access my project folders. I hope this gets put back to how it was soon.

Maybe there is a default flag that has been switched back during the update?

As the update was today maybe I am on 2021.2 also.

I also see the same issue. It's currently under Dev/QA investigation (against issue INVGEN-47832).

Thanks,
Chris

Hello Chris,

(NVGEN-47832)

This change is having a major impact upon my workflow, as would rollingback versions?

I can be working with or creating 7 or 8 different ipj files a day.

How long will it take to find a fix?

Kind regards

Douglas

Hi! The project team is working on a fix. It will be available on the coming update to 2021.2. I am sorry for the regression.

Many thanks!

It happens from time to time, I just don’t really understand who is to blame. Sometimes this has happened in the past, due to a Windows update, but has been corrected with another update. This time the Windows update coincided with the Inventor update and it is not clear what caused this error.

Yea,
I create a seperate ipj file for each job, and double click them in the explorer.
NOTHING, it opens my previous "active"(checked) project file.
I have to open Inventor, go to projects, and then choose a project(checked), THEN open a file

@dwweekly

Everyone knows about it. Does not yet know where the error is, either in the inventory or in Windows Update.

A sort of horrible fix....

So I can right click on the chosen project ipj file,

then select edit,

up pops the project file editor,

I can then tick the new short cut, close the editor

then double click the ipj file and inventor will open in the chosen correct project..

I much prefer the old method!

@D0UGLAS

Thanks for the method, this is at least a temporary solution until the bug is fixed

Hi! Another workaround is to uninstall 2021.2 update until a fix becomes available.

Many thanks!

Unfortunately, even if you uninstall the 2012.2 update the problem won't fix.

I had to uninstall inventor and make a new installation...

I guess Autodesk just has to hurry up and fix their fix!😉

An Inventor fix for this is currently underway with a potential target release of 2021.2.1 (early/mid Dec). It doesn't seem to be related to windows updates from what I've seen.

This fixed it for me. I have the version mentioned in this thread, and I know the below thread calls out a 2020 version, but it still worked. Specifically, make sure to remove the space.

This did not work for me, I was not very keen on changing the registry either.

It looks like when Inventor launches it very helpfully changes the entry back to have a space (the broken mode)
