I will try and summarize.
BACKGROUND:
We got STEP files from a vendor of equipment we are integrating in a design. Because I knew there was a chance the models may change (and now they are going to), I decided to use the REFERENECE MODEL option when importing the STEP file rather than converting it to multiple bodies/parts. I used the IMPORT function after starting a new part for the process since the STEP file of the assembly does not need to be an assembly for my purposes. When checking the newly created part into the Vault, it checks in as a single part as expected. I suppressed the link to the model in the part so it is not always referencing the STEP file and checked the STEP file into the Vault also.
I performed this process twice for two different assemblies from the vendor and combined them into a single assembly with a PURCHASED BOM structure.
CURRENT ISSUE:
The problem that is occurring did not show up in the 2020 version of the software.
What I am trying to do now is check in the assembly that combined the two components (the two parts from imported, REFERNECE MODEL, geometry). When trying to check in the parent assembly, it is telling me it would need to check in a bunch of other components that don’t exist. What the screenshot shows is parts that would have normally been generated if I imported the STEP file as a regular Inventor assembly. But these parts don’t exist: 1) I imported the STEP file into a part and did not use the open command, which would have made a multi body part; and 2) I was able to check the new components from the imports into the Vault without the software asking me to check said parts.
The software thinks these non-existent parts are also in my Documents folder on the C drive when my Vault controlled Inventor project file (which is active in Inventor) points to a separate drive entirely.
