Inventor Grey Screen

Anonymous
Not applicable

I have Inventor 2018 that worked perfectly around a year ago. Whenever I try to open any file or start Inventor normally all the panels and tools show up, but the main area remains grey, not loading anything. I know the part is there, I can rotate it but nothing is showing up (screenshot below)

I have the most recent NVIDIA drivers for my GTX 1070 graphics card, I have repaired and reinstalled Inventor several times, I have disabled my antivirus and run inventor without it - nothing changes.

Please advise on how to resolve this problem.

Thank you!

Try opening another Part, this will force the 'Open Files' tabs to be displayed at the bottom of the screen. From there you can RMB and maximise the view.

We find this happens sometimes when using Teamviewer to share screens, the file is open but 'minimised'.

Did not help. Both parts show up as grey screens, even though the previews are there

Hi! I guess the initial zoom extent is too small so you are looking at the model very closely. Right-click on the graphics window -> Home View. Or simply hit F6. Do you see the part now?

Many thanks!

Tools...application options... hardware tab... Check the box for "use software graphics" AND THEN RESTART Inventor.. and try again

Is it better now?

If so that indicates a driver problem still..

And does "most recent drivers" mean you got them from Nvidias site?

So you are running this one?

@Anonymous So you updated to those drivers now and the problem is gone?

Keeping software graphics checked is not a good solution as it will negatively effect Inventors performance so its best to get the correct driver..

No, I have these drivers and it did not fix it. I had to use software graphics for things to work

Just to be clear, we do not want to work in the "software graphics" mode, as this will cause Inventor to run slowly. That mode is really just a way to rule out issues with the graphics card and drivers. It is recommended to resolve the graphic card/drivers issues or use one of the other modes such as "performance" if that setting works, but use "software graphics" mode just to test with.

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,
Curtis

@Anonymous

yep think of "software graphics" as a diagnostic tool only..

Bob please go back to that screen (tools..application options..hardware tab) and uncheck "use software graphics" then restart Inventor..

Then go back there again and click the "diagnostics" button and wait a few seconds until the screen pops up..

Then press "OK" (which will copy that to your clipboard) then paste that information here..
