Inventor did not save all settings

Hi,

I have some settings and preferences changes in my Inventor, but some of them I have to change again and again - they are saved only in open Inventor. I know that is not saved shortcut for save and replace part in assembly and settings for open files (see in picture) - settings for missing parts etc.

I try to reset settings of Inventor by reset tool and also change safety of users account but this not solve my problem.

Where can be problem?

Thank you for Your help

Which settings are not being "saved"? I see that you've changed the default settings for the location of the Project files.

Not saved are certainly shortcut for save and replace part in assembly and settings for open files - settings for missing parts which is in blue "circle" in picture. I do not know how it called in English version of Inventor :). This check mark are not save in assembly and also in drawings.

I think you are being mislead by this check box. Inventor relies on the Project File to locate the stored location for your files. It uses the Project File to save and locate files for your assemblies as well as where to save all files.

You need to create a Project File that tells Inventor which folder is your Work folder where your models are stored and any Library folders. This check box that you have circled in "blue" will ignore and bypass the search function to locate files that are outside of the Project File search paths.

I know what can I do and set up my project files. I work with Inventor for 11 years every day so I am very experienced.

I only want to save all my settings and preferences, not lost them again and again for new start od Inventor. It is simple.

Inventor writes/updates the WIndows Registry upon proper shut-down and closure of Inventor. Should another instance of Inventor be running in the background, any changes won't be written to the Windows Registry.

Also Inventor requires privilege levels above the "Standard" user settings. They require "Power User or Administrator" level to write to the Windows Registry.

Check with the Task Manager in Windows to see if other instances of Inventor is running. Also look at your security user setting as well. On a network, we will give users "Administrative" levels only at the local machine.

Possibly a virus on your machine may also hinder updates to the Windows Registry.

I wokr only in one instance of Inventor, in task manager is only one inventor.exe file.

I am only one user of my local machine and I have administator rights.

My windows security setting is third highest, so I have only level without security for programs.

I have antivirus Avast Premiere, but for reset of Inventor settings I disable antivirus, change security for lowest level and restart Inventor settings. But problem is the same. I have also CCleaner running.

Blair,

I have had exactly the same issues as Premek is describing that (I am sure) have started since installing the R3 update. I always have the Skip Unresolved Files unchecked and until R3 had never even knew this option existed but have had had to reset it (i.e. clear it as it has magically turned itself on) probably 5 times since installing R3. I only run 1 session of IV and have had no crashes which I know would prevent the option from saving.

There is definitely something strange going on with this setting.

Do you know if there is anywhere else that this setting can be changed?

@johnsonshiue

I only use cCleaner to clean the trash and temp files, it's been known to break the Windows Registry.

You might need to registry Inventor

Re-Register Inventor

1. open a command prompt as administrator
2. type :

"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2016\Bin\Inventor.exe" /install

3. Wait for about 30 seconds & then retry Inventor

If you've re-registered Inventor and the same issue is showing up, try logging in as a different User and see if the problem persists. It could be a issue with the R3 update or something deeper that may require a support call with ADSK.

Are you trying to make these changes with a part or assembly open? If you try to change within an open part the changes don't stick. When you open Inventor close all parts & home screen so it's just gray, change your settings (export saved settings if need be) and then close. When you re-open settings should take affect. It might not be what you're asking but as far as changing your Tools > Application Options and Customize this helped me.

Hi,

settings changes are reset if I use export assembly or part to 3D pdf. Do you have any idea why?

Thanks

At this point I'm reading this posting and I'm hearing a few things that need clarification...

1.  The Skip unresolved option/toggle got toggled on by mistake in Inventor 2017 R2 version release.  But if it gets toggled back off under Application Options and you have the proper permission to the registry it should stick.  I have not personally seen it where it keeps changing as another user has poitned out.

2.  @premysl.misun keeps saying his settings are changing..  Right now I only see one setting in this posting and that's the skip unresolved option.  The word settings (plural meaning) to me, means you are experience numerous settings that are not holding.  But there's nothing here what those settings are.

3.  You said settings are changing when you export to a 3D PDF.  What settings are they?  Skip unresolved option has nothing to do with export.  It only comes into factor when you open your model.

4.  You state you have the 3rd highest security.  What does that even mean?  Are you talking about "Always Notify" on the Windows User Access Control?  If so that has nothing to do with settings in Inventor or control or restrict them.   That has to do when you install software.

It would just help us if you list all of the settings that you are changing and they are not holding their status.  Smiley Wink

Hi,

I have only one user of this pc and I have administration rights.

In aplication option (I have Czech version of Inventor, so I do not know ho it is called in English version) I have some changes - for example - file path of projects or libraries, settings in sketches, colour of working place, assembly settings etc. If I export any file to 3D pdf, these settings are reset to default and I have to import my setting file.xml to have right settings again.

I try to change level or security to lowest and I have administration rights. Nothing helps. Also I try to reinstall aplication and reset to default.

I can load here my .xml file if you want, but I think that problem is somewhere else.

I have Windows 7 Home premium with all SP and newest SP for Inventor 2017.

This seems to be the default with Inventor with the Export to 3D PDF. The same can be said for Export to DWF, the last user settings are not retained.

I've added it to the IDEA forum. If you wish to see this enhancement, vote for it, as it Inventor seems to be lacking in retaining user retained settings/customization.

I have had a similar problem with the 'application options' or settings, changing each time i close then open Inventor 2018.

I have CCleaner, AVG antivirus, windows 10.

I tried the 4 recommendations listed here https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcartic...

The one that finally worked for me was the 'Inventor Reset Utility'

I would try this after running a virus scan and temporarily disabling your anti virus while opening and closing inventor.

The last thing you want to do is leave important anti virus or account control settings off so your computer is at risk.

I hope that helps someone.
