Hello all,
I have a working Inventor 2021 DWG drawing. Working with the file in 2021 is no problem. I wanted to upgrade to 2023. Model itself is working flawlessly but then when I try to open the DWG Inventor shows me an error message that the database could not be open.
Does anyone have a tip what to do?
I never experienced this when upgrading from older to newer versions.
Thank you.
Have you seen this article?
Yes, I did, but none of that causes apply to my case. I am opening older version file in a newer version, the file is not corrupt as it works in 2021 normally and it is inventor origin, not Autocad.
Hi Jiri,
It looks like a corruption case to me. Please share the files here or send them to me directly johnson.shiue@autodesk.com. I would like to understand it better.
Many thanks!
Hello Johnson, I shared the file with you via email.
Thank you for any help.
Hi Jiri,
Many thanks for sharing the file! I am able to open it on 2022.3 but not on 2023. Something is wrong for sure. I need to work with the project team to understand the issue better.
Thanks again!
Hi all,
Johnson confirmed my foundings with being able to open the file in 2021, 2022 but not 2023.
After some investigation he found that opening the DWG file in AutoCAD and running a RECOVER command on it fixes the issue. The file is now fully functional in Inventor 2023.
Dumb question work around ..
If you open it in 2022.3 save it, can it then open in 2023? For a temp work around?
Hi Mike and Jiri,
Saving it in Inventor 2022.3 may not help. The corruption is with some AutoCAD dwg objects. Inventor cannot help salvage the data.
Another workaround our project team found is to save the dwg as idw in 2021 or 2022. However, the AutoCAD blocks will be gone as a result, which is also a proof showing the corruption is with the blocks.
Many thanks!
Not a problem ... thought it might be a simple workaround ..
