I'm happy to share that Inventor 2021.1 update has been release today. Check your Autodesk Account or the Autodesk Desktop App for your update.

As many of you know these point releases include fixing issues but also add customer driven enhancements so be sure to check out the What's New and Release Notes for more details.

Loving the dark theme improvements. Only thing missing now is the CAM windows still being white.

This update has introduced an odd bug for me with the browser window however. If I edit a feature it will always move the browser right to the bottom. This is quite frustrating and certainly something new.

I have been experiencing other odd bugs before this however and it may be related to that, some sketch lines in both modelling and drafting are invisible until moved.

It's hard to explain these issues so I will do my best to get a Screencast of the problems.

Same problem here with the model browser. Every time I update a feature or a constrain or in drawings, it will always move to the bottom. If you have a lot of parts expanded it becomes extremely annoying.

A follow up on today - Inventor only crashed a few times this morning, however around around 4PM it just went crazy and kept crashing/closing almost every 5 minutes. The dialog stopped showing to submit an error report so unfortunately I wasn't able to send any. A few things I noticed though:

1) Vault appear to crash far more often than Inventor. I just don't happen to use too often lately hence why I didn't mention anything sooner. Vault also doesn't allow me to send an error report.

2) Inventor appears to crash a lot when I'm double clicking on an item. It struck me today, that probably 90% of times Inventor or Vault crashed, it was just after I had double clicked on something.

3) The Global Forms tab for some reason doesn't seem to like the dark theme (as you can see in the attached image). It reverts back white, then I have to change my theme to light, and back to dark in order for it to stick for while. It appears to be random in nature whenever it feels like switching back to light again.

Yes unfortunately that issue didn't get caught prior to 2021.1 being released. It's targeted for a fix in the 2021.1.1 update.

Thanks
Chris

OK Thanks for the update,

This all seems to be related to browser interaction & dev are currently investigating a possible fix - we'll contact you offline to see if you could test a patch once ready.

Thanks
Chris

I made a screencast to show one of the visual bugs I am encountering, while doing this I actually discovered that this is actually causing my other visual errors in my IDW. Once I realign a Aux view it seems to create a phantom view that only shows up when printing, you can see a box that represents where it is when dragging the view.

If I then go and edit a sketch in this same drawing, any geometry I create will not show up until a new command is entered. Eventually it causes a crash. If I use undo when this bug is happening, ALL changes will be undone not only the last change.

Hi! Please share the files here or send them to me directly (johnson.shiue@autodesk.com). I would like to understand the behavior better.

Many thanks!

I will have to pack and go the entire assembly but it's not unique to just this drawing. I will see if I can replicate it with something more simple first. It seems to be happening with the assemblies that are copied via Vault and these have a lot of parts suppressed with iLogic etc.

Hi! The drawing issue is known. It has been reported as INVGEN-44136. We are working on a fix and hopefully it will be available soon. In the meantime, if the behavior bothers you, please uninstall 2021.1 update.

Many thanks!

After deeper investigation, we found that the realign aux view problem is actually a legacy issue and was first introduced back in 2020 - so uninstalling 2021.1 will not fix it. We are working towards a fix and should have an update soon.

Thanks and apologies for the inconvenience caused.

Yes!, I was going to reply that I was almost certain that I have had this issue since 2020, I was hoping that 2021 or any of the updates would fix it.

Thank you for confirming this.

Hi @Anonymous

Yeah. This bug has been elusive and we have been chasing it for a while now. Another user just gave us steps to reproduce it from scratch. We are running it through the defect fixing process now. Hopefully it shouldn't be too long.

The current workaround is to copy all visible views on the sheet with the realigned aux view into a different document or move them into a different sheet in the same drawing and delete the corrupt sheet.

Thanks

I'm seeing a very strange bug on some 2021.1 machines, but not others. The OnNewEditObject event (Application events) does not seem to be firing at all on these machines. This is causing a serious issue with an add-in that has worked reliably in this area since Inventor 2013. Rolling back to Inventor 2021.0 fixes the issue.

Hi! Our project team found out it was a known issue (INVGEN-44231). It does not look like it is specific to 2021.1. We don't have a good solution yet.

Many thanks!

Hi Johnson,

Thanks for the update. I have never had a report of this problem over the years, just 2021.1. Very frustrating because I can't reproduce it on a development machine or a test machine.

Hi Marcin,

I tried searching any report from your email address or your domain in the past 30 days. It turns out empty. Without a crash report, it is like shooting in the dark. Please make sure all critical Windows updates are installed and the graphics driver is up-to-date. Apply the latest Inventor updates to your Inventor.

Is the storage a shared network drive? Do you use Vault? Are you using any non-Autodesk Add-In (like AutoSave)?

Many thanks!

We have installed update 2021.1 on two workstations. On both workstations we experience that Vault related dialogs suddenly behave different...... sometimes....... get stuck behind Inventor. Sometimes it does come to the front after a while. Sometimes it does not. Anyone else seeing this behavior?

Removing 2021.1 fixes the problem.

After update windows, "crash" frequency is much lower and this time a window with crash report appears.

In my case, inventor crashes most often when trying to save, i already sent report, but i can't sent my files.
