I'm happy to share that Inventor 2021.1 update has been release today. Check your Autodesk Account or the Autodesk Desktop App for your update.

As many of you know these point releases include fixing issues but also add customer driven enhancements so be sure to check out the What's New and Release Notes for more details.

Thanks,

Did you add the email address you use for this Autodesk account to the CER or another one?

I didn't provide an email in the report. I will do so when it happens again.

@johan.degreef

It is a set of tabs on the ribbon containing commands for electrical substation design.

JD,

The performance issue with Adjust is an issue only when using the dark theme. It's fine when using the light theme. (Actually started with the 2021 release as opposed to being specific to 2021.1).

Should be fixed soon.

Chris

We looked into this last night and were able to reproduce this in dark theme only. We also found that is reproducible with a regular mouse as well as a 3D Connexion device.

Can you switch to light theme and see if this resolves the issue? In the meantime, we are actively working on resolving the issue in dark theme.

I have been having problems with the pop-ups during file opening. Specifically the "Do you want to update the assembly"  and my Vault Checkout pop-up. They may appear sometimes and work, but most commonly the vault pop-up will appear behind Inventor rather than in font of it. The model view pane will also be black during this process, that is new.

Thank you for being on top of the release bugs.

I've been waiting for this update, hoping to jump up to 2021.  We usually wait until the first update for the new bugs to be cleared out, but this one seems to have some bugs of it's own.

Are the issues discussed in this thread limited to the SBS add-in?

Are others having success with this update?

Since my first post I've worked with the SBS folks, their add-in is not causing any issues with 2021.1. They're not sure why it was stated to be causing problems. I did some uninstalling and re-installing and my Inventor works now, though I have some of the other issues about the Vault window hidden and random crashes that have been mentioned in this thread. At least my Inventor is opening and generally working now.

This update has been a nightmare. All the engineers at my office are complaining of Inventor crashing multiple times a day and I personally have also been experiencing the same. This is non stop and causing a lot of issues. I would suggest avoid until this is resolved.

@LFMarshall - We're not seeing a major spike in crashes for 2021.1 compared to previous releases so if you've been waiting for 2021.1 then I would suggest that you try it. If you see issues it's easily uninstalled...

@Anonymous We did see some startup crashes from you originating from the SDS addin - good to hear that uninstall/reinstall corrected those for you.

@shiftctrl.io Please ensure that every one of your engineers send in a crash report every time they see one, ideally with an email address.

Looking at all the low level component changes made in 2021.1, if you see crashes, you could try disabling "Show My Home on startup" from Application Options, general tab, (lower right corner). That may be related, (still under investigation).

Thanks,
Chris

Thanks for the update. All the engineers have been submitting crash
reports and we've set everyone with home screen disabled by default.

What email domain do they use for the reports?

Thanks,

Innovant.com and shiftctrl.io

Not all of them submitted with an email address. The ones that did, probably all used my email for submission.

Thanks - I see 2 reports from @shiftctrl.io and 3 from @innovant.com. From a quick review only one of them seems to be unique to 2021.1.

Please keep sending reports in though & we'll investigate.

Thanks

Chris

Will do. I've just requested all engineers to continue sending in reports.

Unfortunately I'm assuming many of these guys never put in an email when submitting, that's why there are only 5.

As an aside, is there information as to why the the other 4 errors/crashes happened? Anything we can do on our end to resolve and prevent future crashes related to those issues?

  • 1 report was caused by VBA; you're the only person to ever have hit that crash - most likely just an anomaly.
  • 3 were related to the Inventor browser UI being refreshed (perhaps following a vault check-in). Do you typically rely on using the vault browser a lot ? Do you use dark theme?
  • 1 report was related to unsuppressing in a sub-assembly - nothing immediately obvious stands out as being an issue there.

The Dev team are continuing to investigate, so please keep sending in all reports, ideally with contact info & simple steps leading up to the crash.

For anyone else reading this, the crash counts for 2021.1 are not currently a major concern across the whole of the Inventor community.

Thanks,

Chris

As of late (since our upgrade to 2021) we've been using the Vault browser more often than not.

I believe almost all the engineers are using the dark theme at this point.
