Inventor 2019 not starting (Process visible in task-manager), no splashscreen

Hey guys,

we have a major problem with our inventor pro 2019 installation.

Let me first give you some background:

  • There were several installations on this PC in the past 2015, 2016, … (not at the same time)
  • We already installed 2019 and it was working
  • We added a new windows-user which should use inventor.

  • Now the problems began:
  1. This new user could not start inventor:
No splash screen, but inventor.exe was visible in the task-manager
  2. I tried to start inventor with right-click “run as administrator” > worked
  3. I followed some tips from the forum and tried to unregister / reregister > didn’t work
After many different trials I uninstalled inventor completely.
    a) First I simply uninstalled using the uninstaller.
Tried to reinstall inventor but it stuck on “installing language pack”
    b) Now I followed some guides to completely clean up the system and remove anything left from autodesk (including registry, license …)
Same problem. Installation stuck on language pack
    c) I also tried it with disabled anti-virus and minimal UAC-settings.

It seems there is a problem when inventor tries to register on windows.

In the installation process I can see that right before it hangs, inventor.exe was started. When I kill inventor.exe the installation continues normally, but as soon as I try to start inventor I have exactly the same problem as on the very beginning. Inventor.exe is started, no splash screen.

I also checked the log files or the windows-event log. There is absolutely no hint where this problem is coming from.

It is essential to fix this problem within the next hours as we have running timecritical projects!

I already spent many hours to fix this problem myself without success.

At the attachment you will find the installation log (where I killed the inventor.exe on language pack installation).

Meanwhile I think it's not only a local problem of our PC.

I tried to install it on a fresh win10 PC and I have exactly the same problem.
Both systems have in common that they are part of our domain. Is it possible that there is a GPO which is preventing inventor from registering?

Whats happen if you install a fresh PC with Inventor first and bring it into your domain later?

Meanwhile I tried something similar.

I took the PC out of our domain and installed inventor as local user. > works

Unfortunately I did it with the wrong language-pack so I have to do it again... (currently waiting til it's finished).

Anyway I'm not skeptical what happens when I logon as a domain-user later. I think Inventor will try to re-register again and I have the feeling it won't work again.

It would be very helpful to get any indication what's the reason for my problem but there is no logfile showing any error. Is there a way to start inventor in a debug-mode so I get some more output?

I think there are only two reasons why it can fail on a domain.

a) There is a GPO which makes trouble

b) It's something with the domain user-profiles.

The Problem is NOT solved.

I can run inventor as local administrator now. But as soon as I enter the domain and try to start Inventor as domain-admin I still have the same problem!

Hi! This could be related to user profile setting on your machine. If you want to run Inventor as Admin all the time, you can right-click on Inventor icon on desktop -> Properties -> Compatibility -> check "Run as Admin."

Many thanks!
