Inventor 2019.2 Update Error with Copy Design

This morning I installed update 2019.2 on a Windows 10 workstation.

Now my copy design from Vault does not work.

Can anyone else reproduce this or, possibly know the solution?

For now I just uninstalled that update, and it works as normal.

After my initial post, I've been doing a little more digging into some of the other workstations, and I have found the same thing is happening here.  It will randomly work, or not, with no other input, even without a reboot.

Per Irvin's (ihayesjr) suggestion in Message 39, I did check C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2019\Bin and double-click on InventorView.exe and it does run, and will let me open a model and a drawing.  After running InventorView from the executable, I still get the Copy Design error, and View in Window does not work as well.

Does anyone have instructions on how to uninstall the update/patch?  I can't seem to find anything.

Thank you,

Eric

Goto ADD remove programs and view installed updates.

On Windows 10 it looks like this;

I am a full administrator as well and still get the issue.

We have received a report that clearing the temporary files on a machine and then rebooting the machine seems to eliminate the Copy Design error. That is, delete the contents of

  1. C:\temp
  2. C:\windows\temp
  3. %temp%
  4. Reboot the machine

Hopefully this works for other users as well.

My customer had the same issue after installing the SP 2019.2 Vault Basic Client.

I tried deleting temp files and rebooting but that didn't fix the issue.

After uninstalling Vault Basic Client SP 2019.2 it fixed the issue.

@michaelhahn Thanks for trying that out. Did you mean that you uninstalled the Inventor 2019.2 update? I do not think there is a Vault 2019.2 update out quite yet. I just want to be sure we are all on the same page and clear.

Sorry I did not uninstall anything on Inventor.  I uninstalled Service Pack Vault Basic 2019.1 and it fixed the issue.

@michaelhahn Thanks for the clarification. That is very interesting that removing Vault 2019.1 and keeping Inventor 2019.2 resolved the issue for you.

I know others have removed Inventor 2019.2 and kept Vault 2019.1 and that has resolved the issue for them. But then again in other situations, customers are keeping both Vault 2019.1 and Inventor 2019.2 and are able to resolve the issue with reboots, clearing temp folders, or doing nothing, for example.

In another case, a customer was seeing failed Copy Designs based off the Vault user they were logged into with Vault. That is they simply logged out of vault as user 1 and logged in as user 2, and that resolved the issue for them. Both users were Vault Administrators. So they didn't change the Windows profile they were logged in as, either.

Hopefully all that information will spark some more conversation and insights from other users and members of the community.

Just wanted to chime in with my experiences on this.

I can confirm that uninstalling the Inventor 2019.2 Update did restore the Copy Design functionality.

This morning I reinstalled the Inventor 2019.2 update to see if clearing the Temp folders, as @reidmatthew had suggested, would work for me, but it did not.  I also rebooted several times, including before and after each install or uninstall of the update, and clearing the Temp folders.

I hope that Autodesk can find a solution to this.  Please let me know if there is any more information that I can provide that would help in the troubleshooting.

Regards,

Eric

I found the same, per the opening post.
Still waiting for autodesk to fix the issue.
I want my spell check.

Just followed the delete temp files as suggested by matt.r

Result was unsuccessful, still getting the error.

I am seeing the same error on my end too. Inventor 2019.2 and Vault Basic 2019. Clearing temp files and rebooting didn't do anything. This is pissing me off since I will not have to recreate a **** ton of work.

Hi All,
We had one station start working after Clearing the Temp folder - But the next 2-3 still have the same issue after clearing temp folder(s) and Rebooting.
The Best solution we have found that consistently works is to Uninstall 2019.2. We are lucky enough (for now) that the fixes done in 2019.2 are not needed by our designers (I hope) - But Copy Design is!!! So they can at least get Real Work done!!!, while Autodesk finds a clean solution.
I (as is Autodesk) am perplexed Why on 1 Workstation (W10 or W7) with two different Vault Users (edit-level 2)
- No Inventor Running - Just Vault Basic (2019.1)
- One Works Fine - One does Not!

Uninstalling Inventor 2019.2 update fixed the problem. Autodesk - please get your engineers on this.

Is anyone else who is experiencing this issue willing to let AutoDesk remote into there computer.

They claim they can't reproduce it, which I don't believe and requested to remote into my machine, but I do military work and that is not an option.

Seams like enough people are having trouble with it that they shouldn't need to look on my computer.

Same here, military work, no remote access allowed.

I opened a case with my VAR on Monday, and they subsequently opened a case with Autodesk on Tuesday.  I sent them system info, as well as a link to this thread to help describe what was going on.  As of Wednesday morning, Autodesk had stated they were having trouble reproducing the issue, and had several questions about workflow and order of operations of the install.  I replicated the issue on my workstation and answered the questions.  As of this morning, Thursday, I haven't gotten an update from the VAR or Autodesk, but I figured I'd give them a couple of days to see what they could work out, especially since everything works after rolling back to Inventor 2019.1.2.

From my experience and everything I've read on this thread, the issue seems very enigmatic, and I would completely believe that they are having trouble reproducing the issue in a way that allows them to troubleshoot it effectively.  Case in point, another of my workstations here, without any changes since yesterday, is now allowing Copy Design, whereas it was erroring out yesterday.  A third workstation here is still producing the error.  Both of those workstations are running the 2019.2 update.

I don't have a restriction on remote access, but Autodesk and my VAR haven't requested that yet.  I'm willing to help out in any way that I can - it would be nice to have spell check, but I'll choose Copy Design over spell check all day long.

Eric

Has anyone tried opening Internet Explorer and clearing the browser cache?

@ihayesjr, I just tried clearing all data from Internet Explorer on two separate workstations using the Delete Browsing History tool in Tools/Safety.  On the first, I restarted the Vault Basic Client after clearing data, and the Copy Design function worked.

I applied the update on another Windows 7 workstation that is not being used at the moment.  After the update was applied, the Copy Design function was broken, as we've all experienced.  I cleared the data in Internet Explorer as described above and restarted the Vault Basic Client.  The Copy Design function still did not work.  Different machines, different results.

After this, I checked in on the first workstation where the clear data had worked, and now the Copy Design functionality is broken again.

Not sure if this is helpful at all, but those are my results.

I find the same thing.

I tried uninstalling 2019.2 update.

-clear all cache

-clear all temp files

-reinstall 2019.2

-run inventor view

-register inventor with os

-run inventor

-start vault

Copy Design worked, and now it stopped working seemingly randomly.

For me I'm finding that while copy design function seems to stop working randomly, once it stops working it don't start working again randomly, I have to go thru the painful uninstall/reinstall process described above.
