MY PARTICULAR INDUSTRY IS FORMWORK (FOR THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY)
[FORMWORK IS THE PANELS FOR POURING AND GETTING THE SHAPE OF THE CONCRETE]
[THE FORMWORK ALSO HAS TO BE SUPPORTED IN SPACE BY A " SUPPORT WORK" STRUCTURE]
.
IN MY PARTICULAR INDUSTRY WE ARE VERY INTERESTED THE SURFACE AREA OF ALL THE PANELS USED.
THE PANELS COULD BE A MORE COMPLEX SHAPE AND COULD HAVE FACETS AT DIFFERENT ANGLES.
.
IN THE EXAMPLE ATTACHED (SIMPLIFIED TO A SQUARE PLATE WITH NO STIFFENERS)
WE WOULD ONLY BE INTERESTED IN THE AREA OF FACE 1.
THE IPROPERTIES OPTION, PHYSICAL TAB, AREA BUTTON GIVES
A TOTAL SURFACE AREA OF ALL 6 FACES.
.
IS THERE A WAY TO GET THE AREA PROPERTIES OF FACE 1 ONLY?
THIS WOULD BE EXTREMELY USEFUL.
AT THE MOMENT I AM TAKING THE TOTAL SURFACE AREA AND DIVIDING BY 2
(NOT QUITE ACCURATE AS THE EDGE AREAS ARE STILL INCLUDED)
OR MANUALLY WORKING IT OUT (WHICH IS VERY DIFFICULT WHERE THE SHAPE IS COMPLEX)
.
OBVIOUSLY THERE IS THE OPTION TO EXPORT THE FACE AS A DXF OR DWG AND OPEN IT IN AUTOCAD
TO GET THE AREA OF THE CLOSED PLANAR POLYLINE.
.
HOWEVER I WAS HOPING THERE WAS A WAY TO GET THE SURFACE OF A FACE WITH JUST ONE CLICK,
AND EVEN BETTER TO BE ABLE TO CUMULATIVELY ADD A WHOLE BUNCH OF SURFACES BY CLICKING ON
ALL OF THEM TO GET A TOTAL
.

To get a surface area of the face you need 2 clicks, first click measure, then click the face.

@MikeKovacik4928 to add to what @eng.co shared about the measure tool, you can use the accumulated value function.

Hi Michael,
Just one more comment, the measure accumulation is available after 2018.2.
Regards
Thanks
Perfect, that answers the 1st part of my question.
Not too sure why I didn't figure that out before.
but, hey, that's what the forum is for!
Mike
Thanks Kelly
That answers the second part of my question.
I can't find it on my software, but I see from the next post,
that it is on one of the service packs of Inventor 2018.
I have not loaded them yet, here, at work, or at home.
Mike
Thanks Xun
That explains why I can't find it on my software here at work
(Inventor 2018 - No service packs loaded)
or at home (also Inventor 2018 - No service packs loaded.

Hi!
Measuring AREAS only works in .ipt or .iam etc. files, but not in a .idw
Is there another way to get the Area of only one FACE in a drawing, then measuring it in the Model Space, copying the value and pasting it in my .idw. That way the value also won't update, if the model is changed.
Felix
