In our continuing efforts to provide high quality products, Autodesk has released Inventor 2016 R2 update which is available to subscription customers and includes Shape Generator, other product enhancements, as well as various fixes. Inventor 2016 Service Pack 1 is available to customers without subscription and contains only fixes.

Hi Rory,

Do you mean that you don't see Build 210 SP1 shown in Help About &that R2 doesn't show up in Windows Control Panel, Programs & Features ?

If that's the case, we're in process of posting an AKN article about this. It was due to 2016 Update1 being released incorrectly & it was then possible to install the re-released version again. This is discussed in this forum topic:

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-general-discussion/certain-hatch-patterns-not-being-printed/m...

This is the draft info for the soon to be posted article:

Title

Autodesk Inventor 2016 SP1 or R2 install failed.(The version number is not updated to 20.1.21000.0000 in Help About Product dialog)

ISSUE

After installing Autodesk Inventor 2016 SP1 or R2, open Inventor, Help -> About Autodesk Inventor 2016, the build version is still 20.0.13800.0000. SP1 or R2 installed failed or not completely.

This problem is caused by more than one Inventor Update1 build were installed.

Solution

We need to uninstall the uncompleted SP1 or R2 and clean Update1 installation.

  • If you install R2 & it failed, use this command in cmd prompt to remove R2; or you can uninstall R2 from Control Panel. If you install SP1 & it failed, skill this step.

"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2016\Bin\UninstallTool.exe" R2

  • Remove incomplete Inventor 2016 English Language Pack SP1 using this command (please refer to the following form for different “lang id” and use correct one to replace 1033 for English); if you want to install SP1 or R2 later, you can skip this step

Msiexec.exe /uninstall {C2B4B6F5-2010-1033-0064-E0CB94366A9C} /package {7F4DD591-2064-0001-1033-7107D70F3DB4} /qb

Hi Chris, thanks for the quick and comprehensive reply.

There's a typo in the text by the way: " If you install SP1 & it failed, skill this step." I assume skill means skip.

Yes, my about showed that Inventor was build 138. I wasn't sure what had failed and at what point so I first of all tried running the "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2016\Bin\UninstallTool.exe" R2 command but it didn't work.

I checked the Bin folder and there was no uninstalltool.exe in there so obviously that was why it didn't work. I uninstalled R2 in the normal manner from "Programs and Features"

All the other command lines you posted worked fine and uninstalled their relevant components without error.

I then rebooted and reinstalled R2 from the Application Manager and..........

It worked!

About now shows Build 210, Release 2016 SP1. No mention of R2 but the Force Effect and Shape Generator functions seem to be fine now.

Thanks again for the help.

Rory

OK Thanks Rory.

So it sounds like your install failed before the uninstalltool was put down - good info.

That's all correct. Help, About should show build 210 SP1, & Control Panel, Programs & Features will show both R2 & SP1.

Clear as mud, eh ?

I still see only language packs when I apply the filters. If I add "R2" to the search field, I get zero results.

I'm still experiencing crashes, really hoping to figure out a way to update Inventor.

Hi Ben,

Can you please send me your Company name & if possible the serial number you used during installation. (Look under Inventor, Help, About),  as well as any other subscription related info that would be useful too & I'll ask the MyAccount team to investigate.

send to chris.mitchell@autodesk.com

I assume you don't see R2 or SP1 under Application Manager either ? Ensure to expand out the Last Month & Older sections too.

Thanks

Chris

Hi Ben,

please first assure your serial number has entitlement of maintenance or desktop subscription. if yes, could you check below items?

1. can you see any other update or SP in Application Manager?

2. could you check if the OS date and time is correct?

3. could you check if there is any network proxy for your OS or Application Manager?

4. coluld you have a try to check after reboot your OS?

5. could you attach the log file in %ProgramData%\Autodesk\SDS\Log?

6. for MyAccounts (accounts.autodesk.com), please make sure the account you are using log in has the entitlement of subscription

Ben,

We're now investigating an issue with the Premium level of Suites not being able to access R2 even though they have subscription. That being said you should still see SP1 in Application Manager. Are you able to provide us with the log file which Kevin mentioned ?

In the meantime you can download SP1 from http://download.autodesk.com/us/support/files/inventor_2016_service_pack_1/Inventor2016_SP1.exe

Once we sort out the R2 access problems, you will be able to overlay that on top of SP1.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Chris

Why am I still stuck with this "not being able to access R2" issue 3 months later? (Product Design Suite Ultimate with Advanced Support)

Thanks for the reply, Chris.

Unfortunately, I can't even access the filter, all I get is a spinning circle. I've been trying to access this updates for a week using multiple browsers and both work and home PCs, but nothing works so far.

I will be sending you my company info.

Thanks again,

Every time I go to this page the 'DOWNLOAD' link is disabled. I did try to download yesterday but the IT firewall caused the file to no download fully. I went and deleted the incomplete file from the C: drive to see if that would help. However it has not.

Please help me find a way to get this update installed.
