In our continuing efforts to provide high quality products, Autodesk has released Inventor 2016 R2 update which is available to subscription customers and includes Shape Generator, other product enhancements, as well as various fixes. Inventor 2016 Service Pack 1 is available to customers without subscription and contains only fixes.

Inventor 2016 R2/SP1

We thank all our customers who identified these issues and reported them to us. These reports give us the opportunity to improve the product and provide you with the best solution in mechanical design. We also thank you for your continued business and for feedback regarding the content of this update release.

Respectfully,

Chris, thanks for the post.

I dont have the new icon Shape Generator icon in the 3D tab, nor can I find the ForceEffect icon.

I've updated the ribbon, several times.

The ForceEffect addin is automatical/loaded.

The log files show sucsessfully installed.

And all of these are true:

"Once R2 is installed, Inventor Help About, should show Build: 210, Release: 2016 SP1 - Date 10/13/2015. Control Panel Programs & Features will show Autodesk Inventor Professional 2016 R2, with the actual install date & version 20.1.21000.0000 as well as Autodesk Inventor Professional 2016 - "Language" with the same version number. Sp1 is no longer displayed under View installed updates."

App manager tells me R2 status is installed, no errors indicated

I went thru the read me before and after, nothing there explaining this.

I have re-started since R2 install.

Any thoughts?

Hi Mark,

If the ForceEffect addin is installed/loaded, then you should see the ribbon icons for that when you create/edit a 2D sketch.

Do you see any information in the "C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Local\Temp\Autodesk Inventor 2016 R2" or "C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Local\Temp\Autodesk Nastran Solver.log", "C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Local\Temp\Autodesk Inventor 2016 Stress Analysis.log" text files ?

If you look under "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2016\Bin\NASTRANSolver" you should see lots of files, (I have 87, 435MB).

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Baocheng,

I just performed the steps you provided, and now the R2 Update is installed correctly on both workstations.  The About dialog shows sp1 as it should.

Thanks!

Chris,

I found the ForceEffect, in the Add-Ins tab of the sketch.  I was looking for its own icon.

And I either missed it completely or after I started a stress analysis it added the Shape generator (Explore panel) icon after I selected it on the Create Study dialog box ( I really think it was the latter.  I'll found out on the next system I update)

All is well now.

Thanks.

Ok Thanks for confirming,

I'm not aware of that behaviour, so yes please do let us know if you see the icon appear similarly next time.

I cannot see the R2 release in either the web account or the application manager.

There is no 'recent' section...

My Inventor install seems unstable; it's crashing on me 2-3 times a day.

Every time it does, I get an email saying this update is available, but can't for the life of me download it.

Further adding to the frustration.

Here are the screenshots of what I'm seeing - on the web acct page I'm logged on as our office manager, and I can see the full product suite downloads, and I know we're on subscription. Hopefully it's just something I'm looking right past.

Thanks,

Ben

Tracis,

I've already installed R2, however, when I'm in Application Manager now, it is in the "Older", not in the "New Updates"

I did not look in the Product updates site.

Chris,

2nd system went fine.  I must have just missed it on the 1st system 🙂

We're investigating an issue where certain accounts are not being presented with the R2 installer when logging in to MyAccount. Many of these problems seem to be where a Suite containing Inventor is what is on subscription, as opposed to standalone Inventor being on subscription.

Attached is a document explaining the additional steps to find the R2 installer from MyAccount. It would be greatly appreciated if, as many of you as possible, could validate these steps prior to this info being posted as an official article.

Many Thanks
Chris

Ben,

I looked up your recent crashes.

  1. You have a very outdatd graphics driver for your onboard GPU (most likely Intel) - please update that to the latest versions of your main graphics card as well as any onboard GPU.
  2. You may have a problem in some iLogic code (which seems to be changing assembly LOD's) - is it more stable if you don't use iLogic code ? Or if you're not using iLogic at all, try unloading the addin. If you need to use that code, try saving the top level assembly prior to using the iLogic code. A fix for this issue is being investiagted for Inventor 2017 if it is iLogic related.
  3. You may have been crashing on close after printing certain drawings - this should be fixed in SP1.

After you get SP1/R2 installed please ensure to send in every single crash report, even if you think it's just the same thing.

Alos it might be worth you creating your own account for these forums so you're not confused with being Traci Smiley Happy

Thanks

Chris

Chris, I was not able to find R2 in the Product Updates section with filters set for Inventor Professional and 2016. I did find it in the Products section (we are Ultimate Suite) using the same filters.

Thanks for looking into the crashes Chris. I will get right on the graphics driver, I thought I had updated that when I installed Inventor.

I still do not see the R2 update, following the pdf instructions.

Here are more screenshots of what I see - looks like it's all just language packs.

We are using 'Product Design Premium' suite with standard Inventor, not Pro.

And yes, I have my own account for the forum but have to log in as office manager to see our products and forgot to switch before posting Smiley Happy

I'm sure she appreciates the barrage of emails anyway haha.

Thanks for all your help!

My computer says that my nvidia graphics card and all Intel hardware is up to date.

The diagnostic from Inventor gave me this info (attached.)

Not sure if this is applicable to this thread; I guess I'm just hoping the crashes are less frequent with R2 if and when I'm able to download it.

Thanks,

Ben

Ben, Mark,

Thanks for confirming what you're seeing (or not) in MyAccount. We'll do some further investigations.

Yes, we all hope that things will be better now that you've installed SP1/R2.

Much appreciated,

Chris

Following the instructions allowed me to see the R2 update.  Note that the filter must be set to "Autodesk Inventor Professional".  Choosing "Autodesk Inventor" will not show the R2 update.

Thank you for the feedback Sam. We're going to adjust the doc.  Our accounts team is still working on the problem and we're also asking them to explore why it matters if you filter on Inventor vs Inventor Pro.

Tom,

FYI, I have an Inventor HSM subscription. The R2 update is not showing up for that either.

Mine shows up in the Application Manager and installs without any error messages but just doesn't show up in Inventor.

This is my home PC, using a "work at home" license which is on subscription. My work PC installed and is working fine.

None of the new features are listed under tools > add-ins.

Any ideas? I've tried uninstalling & reinstalling, reboots etc. Everything else works fine.

Windows 7 OS if that matters.
