Insert drawing view with current camera

Hi,

I cant figure out how to insert a drawing view using the saved camera state from the assembly.

In previous versions you could choose "current camera".

I usually right-click my design view and choose save camera in the position I want to show my assembly in the drawing. Then I create a drawing and insert the open assembly with current camera setting.

Any ideas where to look for this?

Hi Johnson,

Thanks for the prompt reply! You would have to be Autodesks most diligent and proactive employee; of this im quite certain!

I understand the workflow, I just dont believe it adds any value, except in the instance of very repetitious and/or  simple 3rd angle drawing processes. There are many times we add views at no particular defined angle/projection, simply to show a clearer visual of certain components, to assist in identifiying parts, and adding additional visual info for construction/assembly. To do so requires a doubling handling step of placing a view then adjusting orientation to custom via the viewcube funtion. In the past, this process was simply undertaken via aligning as required in the 3D environment and ticking the 'current view' option in the drop down.

I interpret this current workflow as unnecesary convolution of a process, that worked fine beforehand.

Its only one mans opinion though, so each to their own I guess.

Thansk again for the assistance, im sure the info you've provided will assist others who find this thread also.

Cheers

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Many thanks for your kind words! Inventor team works very hard to make sure user requests are properly fulfilled. Certainly, there is room for improvement. For this particular case, there should be workflows allowing users to change camera angle more easily. I will discuss it with the project team tomorrow and see what options are available.

Thanks again!

Hi Johnson,

No dramas; got to credit where credit is due. Its not exactly the end of the world, but I apprecaite you taking the comments on board and escalating for some form of review, thats much appreciated.

The only other thing I might add is that I assume that changing camera angle in the 2D  is not as quick as moving in the 3D environement? Just due to the fact you are manipulating a model only in the 3D, whereas in the 2D, the program is trying to manipulate and re-draw a bunch of lines to produce a drawing. Leave it with you to discuss anyway.

Thanks.

Daniel

Hi Johnson,

Just a small amendment.

Even if you open part or assembly presented on given drawing before you enter "custom view orientation", it never opens model window in perspective when view is set to be in perspective.

Supper annoying I must say.

Hi Kris,

Indeed, the workflow is not streamlined. There is room for improvement. I am working with the project team to see what options we have. I cannot guarantee a solution soon but we need to understand it first.

Many thanks!
