Infinitely Loading When Opening Assemblies

Inventor has developed the lovely habit of loading infinitely, requiring a hard close, when opening assemblies from either Vault or the model tree. Memory and CPU usage remains normal. I can't wait to see if it will resolve unattended and am forced to restart Inventor to fix it which is not guaranteed. There is no error message or pattern to this other than it happens about every fifth open. Of course, this is insanely disruptive.

I assume the latest patch was the cause.

I sat down with our IT guy and we analyzed the logfile ourselves. We found that Inventor was repeatedly trying to access CN-6408.0015.ipt and failing. There is no such version for that file in my local or in Vault. This is a long-standing bug with a history of fixes and reintroductions. https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/vault-forum/inventor-looks-for-a-version-that-doesn-t-exist/td-p/1212... Normally, an error message is shown that allows the user to ignore the reference glitch and proceed. My Inventor client was not sending the message and just looped back. We manually created a file CN-6408.0015.ipt in the related directory and the bug was fixed.

Now we know this is unrelated to Webroot, Huntress, or another application. This is a bug in Inventor itself.

Many thanks for sharing the findings! Inventor does not open files from Old Versions folder directly. It seems that Vault initiates the request. I need to work with the project team to understand it better.
