Importing stp model to inventor 2020 takes a long time

I have noticed that importing .stp models to Inventor 2020 takes long time or not open at all (a little more complex models). I opened same models to Inventor 2016 and they open fast without a problem. There is something seriously wrong.

I tried to reset Inventor to default setting and no change to import and finally I reinstalled whole software and this did not fix the problem either. How could I fix this extremely annoying problem?

I don't notice any performance issue with stp .

Maybe your PC needs attentions or upgrades.

1. Clean up temp file.
2. Software higher versions comes with higher performance and features. Also with graphics improvements. If you are using updated version, you should use better performance.

So, I suggest you to upgrade your pc configurations, if not.

Hi Petri,

How big is the STEP file? Actually, we have identified a Microsoft Windows Defender bug during our internal testing (reported as INVGEN-35862). The performance problem was caused by Windows Defender processing a large external file when Inventor tried to import it. Our latest status shows that Microsoft has found the problem and fixed in on their end. It should be in the coming Windows updates (not sure which one).

We will update this thread when we have definite patch and date. This issue may or may not be related to the problem you are seeing. But, based on your description, it sounds related.

Many thanks!

Thanks for replies. The step file was around 300Mb.

I got it fixed when I uninstalled the Inventor 2020, removed all folders the first installation made. Installed again and Inventor 2020 seems working quite well, still a bit slower than Inventor 2016.

Hi! It could be related to a Windows defender issue. Do you use Windows defender as the Anti-virus tool? Please make sure all critical Windows updates are installed.

Many thanks!

Thanks for the reply. I do not use Windows defender. I am quite happy how this works now so problem solved. It was strange but re-installation seemed to fix it.
