Importing AutoCAD dwg is blank

No matter what file I use and level of complexity, Inventor will not import any native AutoCAD solids. It used to work but now nothing happens. When imported it open a blank part.

Hi! On top of my head, I can think of two reasons.

1) The import option was set to create drawing instead. In the import dialog, make sure 3D solid is selected as output.

2) The dwg file was last saved in AutoCAD 2018. And, you are on older Inventor release like 2017 or older. Older Inventor cannot open the file.

Many thanks!

Can you create a Screencast Recording of your steps?

(I assume you have experience - but the Options have to be set a certain way for success.)

Have you installed all Updates for 2019?

Have you tried running the Inventor Reset Utility?

I've had success with the same operation on a different computer on Inventor 2018.

All updates have been installed and reset utility has been ran twice.

Both my AutoCAD and Inventor are 2019 fully updated. My AutoCAD is saving to 2018.

My import settings are set to import 3D Solids as a new part.

What if you set the Destination to your Desktop?

Also - I have My Home closed.  I only see these two differences.

Then when I follow the rest of your steps I get two files.

One is blank part with one sketch and the second tab is the block1.ipt.

changing the destination and closing my home and opening with the same steps still leads to a blank file.

Same issue when I make a copy of the same block file to my desktop.

Hi Cody,

Please share the screenshot of the DWG Import option you use. I would like to see what options were chosen.

Many thanks!
