Looking to start using Imates more and more as I am slowly running out of time to do everything i.e. inserting hardware into assemblies. Imates seems like a logical step but I am running into a problem. I have Imates set up on say a bolt and a corresponding hole on many parts. When I use these Imates in an assembly they cannot seem to find each other. Would having my top level assembly be split into sub assemblies be affecting this?
Example: my top level assembly is split into a door (sub), body (Weld), and two bolted on sub assemblies
I am assuming that Imates only works in whatever assembly you have open.
Thanks for any help

Hi! If I understood your question correctly, the answer is yes. Think about iMate like a semi-automated constraint. You can constrain components at the first level only. You can still edit in place a subassembly and then constrain the components there. But, you cannot create a constraint between PartA and SubA->PartB.
Many thanks!
