HI!

1-Create a file PROJECT to that folder (*.ipj) and activate it.

2-I would try to delete the original assembly file, and rename the copied one:

(create backups before deleting)

That is a Windows issue regarding the icon it use, thats not an Inventor issue.
You have to tell windows which icon it must use.

...This is important for you?!!

So how to fix this ??
Yes very important . If using inventor standard icon , file will open by double click on file.
But if using Inventor yellow symbol, file will open by another program Inventor again.

The icon doesn't have nothing to do with it...

So... Your problem is, how to avoid to open new Inventor instance when double click an Inventor file...

Of course you can still use the Design assistant.
Design assistant will look to the extension file (iam, ipt, idw, etc), not for the icon.
The icon is only a visual way to recognizes better the type of file... you can use any icon you select, and that will not change anything in the programs. The programs will open the files based in the extension.

Inventor 2024 only. I still don't know how to fix it . Maybe I need to uninstall then install again if no solution.

Well... you can do that, uninstall/Install Inventor will not take so much time.

But... you can also try to fix it with the Autodesk solutions:

I believe the Inventor need to be re-registered, you can do that with these methods:

How to Re-Regestring Inventor (autodesk.com)

How to re-register Inventor via Command Prompt (autodesk.com)

Bsically both sites have similar solutions, re-register Inventor and reset register keys.

Hi! You may want to reset IconCache.db on your machine. Close all apps and go to File Explorer. Go to "%userprofile%\AppData\Local" and rename IconCache.db to IconCache.old. Reboot the machine. Does it work now?

Many thanks!

Hi! Try right-clicking on an iam file -> Open With -> select Inventor and check "Always use this app to open iam file" option.

Many thanks!
