I've Modified a Part in my Custom Content Center. Now What?

Years ago, I created an iPart for key locking thread inserts from McMaster.  I've now wised up and added an iMate to make placement faster.  I went into the member list in the iPart file and regenerated all of the child models.  However, I'm unclear how to get the updated files into my content center library.

When I go into the Content Center editor and click on the family, there's an option to "replace family template".  I tried to point this at the iPart master, but I got an error saying that this file was not a valid template.

Do I have to remove and republish this in order to update it?  Obviously I could just take one of the child models and paste it into the content center folder.  And this would work, but any model that gets newly generated, or re-generated would not have the iMates.

If I remove this family and republish it, what happens to all my existing assemblies that have a reference to the old version.  Does this matter if all the children have the same file names and part numbers?

Thanks!

I found another post with some relevant info and it helped me figure this out.  I have my iPart master that's sitting out there and it's updated, which is great.  But this file can't be used with the "update family template" function.  What I had to do was to go to where the content center "children" are sitting.  I opened one of those child models and added the iMate.  Save it, close it.  Then go to the content center editor, use the "update family template" function and point it at the file you just changed.

As a side note, I didn't have a project setup that has editing rights to the content center storage folder, so I had to move this file somewhere else under a project umbrella, edit it, and move it back, then go back into the CC editor as described.

Hope this helps someone!

You got it!

The other way to edit the Content Center "child" model is to create a project for that purpose.  This project would have the Content Center folder as its workspace and therefore editable. Saves moving the file out and back but accomplishes the same thing by a different means.

Yeah I thought about doing this, but then I likely wouldn't need it again for years so I didn't bother.  Thanks!
